Michael Holder

Michael Holder was born on August 10, 1950 in Washington, D.C. at the old Freedman's Hospital. After an arduous battle with cancer, he passed from this life on to his next at the Capital Caring Hospice on Tuesday, June 24, 2025.

Michael was raised in Washington, DC and educated in the District of Columbia public school system. He was a leader in the ROTC during high school and went on to serve our country in Vietnam after being drafted into the Army in 1970. He was honorably discharged in 1972. Upon his return from Vietnam, Michael started working in the US government. He became a computer specialist and eventually took on the role of supervisor at the Department of Defense. He retired in October 1997, after 25 years of service.

As the oldest child, he was often tasked with looking after his siblings. When he was a young boy, he could be found playing with those little green army men for hours, as well as shooting marbles. During his teen years, both he and his sister Cynthia were great dancers and even won contests. He was a huge Star Trek fan. He loved Sunday school and vividly remembered the Bible stories he learned as a youth in great detail. Michael was an avid news watcher. CNN and MSNBC were among his favorite channels. He was always impeccably dressed and loved a nice, clean ride. A little known fact was how much he loved a late night bologna sandwich. He could be a bit of a loner but enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Michael will be deeply missed, but his kindness, love for others, and faith will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Mary D. Holder and brother Keith A. Marks Sr. He is survived by his love and life partner Patricia Long, sisters Cynthia Coleman (James), Joan Williams and brother Martin Holder (Tammy), sisters in law Margaret Frasier, Kathleen Allen, Dolores Frasier, brothers in law Jerome Frasier , Terry Frasier, Ernest Frasier and Jeffrey Frasier, God-daughter, Asia Chisolm, uncle Henry Holder (Laura), aunt Helen Wilson (Calvin), nieces, nephews and a multitude of cousins.
