Reflection of Life
Michael Lee Jenkins, Sr. was born June 16, 1956 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Monroe Jenkins, Sr. and Hattie Mae Davis. Michael received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Oakland Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana led by the late Doctor Arthur Paul Clay, Sr. He rededicated his life at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church on November 15, 2009, under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Dr. Fred Luter, Jr., and remained a devoted member.
Michael was a 1976 graduate at Destrehan High School. He was very athletic, where he played basketball for four years at Destrehan High School and four years on Kaiser Alumina recreation basketball team. Michael retired from Noranda Alumina after 30 years of service. After retirement, Michael took on the task of being a caretaker for his youngest granddaughter, Bella Grace.
Michael was a devoted family man. He adored his life partner, Edith Coleman, affectionately known as Dee by her grandkids and bonus kids. Michael was fondly known as Paw-Paw, Senior, Michael Lee, Big Mike, Mighty Joe, Unk, Mentor, and Jenkins to many. He was a much-loved role model that took pride in his two daughters and son's accomplishments.
Known for his dandy sense of style, Michael appreciated fine clothing. When he stepped out, he was Mr. GQ! He took pride in himself and clothes. One of his favorite quotes were, when asked if his clothes were new, "this my old school outfit from 1996, I take care of my clothes." Michael's enjoyment and appreciation for life was contagious. His love for cars was unmatched. His favorite past times were spending time with his family, grilling, detailing his vehicles, manicuring his lawn, attending concerts and festivals, taking family photos, relaxing on his back patio, taking his daily naps, and cheering on the New Orleans Who Dat Saints, LSU Tigers, and Southern University Men's Basketball. So many memories can be told about Michael. Spending time with family, was just as important to him as his daily naps. He had an unmeasurable amount of love for his family.
Michael departed this earthly life on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 surrounded by his three devoted kids and life partner after a brief battle with leukemia. He was proceeded in death by his father, Monroe Jenkins, Sr., mother, Hattie Mae Davis, sister, Rebecca "Becky" Jenkins, brother, Hiram Davis, Sr., grandparents, Hal and Commonia Maxon, and bonus son, Tyrone Coleman.
Michael's memories will be forever cherished to Edith Coleman, life partner of 19 years, son, Michael (LaToya) Jenkins, Jr., daughters, Kali (Ryan) Price, Michelle (Keith) Miller, Jonata (Alton) Newton, Ashely, Austin, and Alexis Jenkins of Los Angeles, California. 3 brothers, Monroe (Linda) Jenkins, and Perry and Glenn Davis. 9 grandkids, Michael III, Matthew, and Mikayla Jenkins, Kennedi Miller, Bella Price, Carlton and Jylon Morris, Alani and Alton "Tre" Newton and great-granddaughter, Aubri Jenkins. Survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure! We love you, but God loved you more. God needed a flower in his vine yard, so he chose Michael Lee. We ae going to miss him and his love he showed to all of us.
