Michael David Jones, Jr., of Altha, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at his home. He made his debut on Earth December 8, 1958, to the late Michael and Barbara Jones. He was raised in Deerfield Beach, FL as a farmer’s son, driving tractors and plowing fields at an early age.
He met the love of his life, Sally, in the late 1970’s. They married on August 1, 1981, and soon after started their family. David moved his family of four to Altha, Florida, to enjoy the country life.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years Sally, their children, Eric Jones of Marianna, FL, Amie Jones (Matt Porter) of Sneads, FL, his beloved dog Sport, brother Kevin Jones, and sister Missy Jones both of Waynesville, NC. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
David was a man of many words, quick witted, and never met a stranger. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and enjoy all that nature has to offer, but mostly, David loved his family. He was highly skilled in building things with his hands. David was always planning, building, or tinkering on some sort project. He had a passion for food and cooking like no other. He loved to learn. Hence the nickname, “Smarty”, he knew everything about everything. He had a deep love for music of all kinds, and enjoyed going to concerts and traveling.
If there is good music, a fishing pole and someone to talk to in Heaven, David will be a happy man. A shindig is planned for Saturday, September 27 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sweetwater Barn. All friends are invited to come and share in remembering David.
