Michael J. Kelly, a cherished patriarch and respected community member, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in Bethlehem, PA. Born on June 26, 1932, in Scranton, PA, he was a son of the late John J. Kelly and Nora (Costello) Kelly. Michael was predeceased by his loving wife, Antoinette "Toni" (Salamido) Kelly, who left this world on August 22, 2000, and his brothers, Paul and John Kelly. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication through his family and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Michael's life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family. He is survived by his beloved children: Michael Kelly of Lower Nazareth, Noreen Frederick (Terry) of Upper Macungie, Paul Kelly (Michelle) of Swan Point, MD, and Brian Kelly (Susan) of Cedar Knolls, NJ. His ten grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life, will miss his humor and guidance: Sean Forte (Jennifer), Nicholas Kelly (Sara), Jennifer Forte, Lauren Signorelli (John), Daniel Kelly (Doug Thum), Timothy Kelly (Elise), Jonathan Kelly (Amber Kerstetter), Eric Kelly (Jessica), Jason Frederick (Chrissy), and Kristy Grimshaw (Scott). His fourteen great-grandchildren, whom he adored, will cherish their fond memories of him: Saphir, Josiah, Matthew, Lucas, Amelia, Aubrey, Logan, Giovanni, Nora, Quentin, Carli, Caitlyn, Jason, and Gracie.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister, Sister Annellen Kelly, I.H.M. of Dunmore, PA.
An alumnus of Technical High School in Scranton, Michael's professional life was as distinguished as his personal life. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the US Army - 28th Infantry Division as a medic and Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. His career spanned various roles, including a Boilermaker for Bethlehem Steel Corp. in Hawley, PA, a welder for the Troyler Corporation in Scranton, PA, and a Boilermaker Welder for the Combustion Engineering Co., in Rochester, NY. Michael's dedication to his work was evident during his tenure at Foster Wheeler in Livingston, NJ, where he retired as the Manager of Proposals in the World Services Division in 1993 after years of service as a Construction Superintendent and Project Manager.
A faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Bath, PA, he lived his faith through action and prayer. His interests were diverse and reflected his love for life. An avid bowler, traveler, and sports enthusiast, Michael enjoyed football, softball, baseball, and soccer. He treasured the time spent coaching little league and cheering on the NY Cosmos. But above all, Michael's heart belonged to his family. His presence at the Salamido family's 37th reunion was a testament to the bonds he held dear.
Those who knew Michael will remember him as a man of humor, faith, and love. His ability to bring laughter to any situation, his devout faith in God, and his unconditional love for those around him were the hallmarks of his character. Michael's life was a journey filled with purpose, service, and joy. His spirit, enriched by the experiences he shared with those he loved, will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
