Michael A. Labriola died suddenly August 2, 2023 after a brief illness.
Mike was born in Newark, New Jersey and moved to Nutley, NJ when he was 6. After school he joined the United States Marine Corps and served his country with pride until he was honorably discharged in 1958. He then moved to Michigan to study at the University of Detroit, later continuing his education at the Pratt Institute and Lawrence Technological University. He met his future wife, Bobbie, in 1962. They were married in 1970.
Mike had a long and successful career. He became a Master Plumber in 1981. In 1999 he started to work for the city of Birmingham as a Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector and continued working for them until his retirement in August 2022 at age 87. During those 23 years he completed 68,269 inspections. He loved his work and the people he met through it.
He was a man of faith. Mike attended North Hills Christian Reformed Church for over 50 years and cherished the fellowship and friendships he found there.
Mike found the most joy being around his family. He was a dedicated, hands-on father to his two daughters, Laura and Amy, attending school events and treating them to special father-daughter days out.
Mike was passionate about cars. He had a 1965 AMC Rambler 440 (which he called a "sleeper" because it looked unassuming but had a powerful engine) that he loved to show off, and one of his favorite events was the Woodward Dream Cruise. He also enjoyed watching and reading about military history.
Above all, Mike was a man of integrity and character with a ready smile. He was always happy to help his friends and colleagues with a project or just a word of advice. He befriended people wherever he went and was known for his infectious laugh. He knew how blessed he was and was incredibly thankful for all the friends he made throughout the years. He will be missed by many.
Loyal husband of Bobbie Labriola for 53 years. Beloved father of Laura Labriola (Andrew Koh) and Amy Neff (Kris). Caring grandfather of Alex, Abby, Will, and Nate. Dear brother of Catherine Mussatto, and Joe Labriola (Mark Shetley).
Family will receive friends Friday, August 11, 2023 3-8 PM at AJ Desmond and Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Rd, Troy (btwn Maple and Big Beaver), 248-362-2500. Funeral Service Saturday, August 12, 1 PM at North Hills Christian Reformed Church, 3150 Adams Rd., Troy. Visitation at the church begins at 12 PM.

Mike was one of the good guys! For 35 years I knew him as Bobbie´s husband. He was always kind and dependable if anyone needed help. He helped me and many others with plumbing. Mike will always be a sweetheart in my memory. Sending condolences to Bobbie, Amy, Laura and the extended family.
