Cecilia I. Worrel

Cecilia Irene Worrel, age 100, of Troy, Michigan, passed away on December 8, 2025. She was born in Detroit on July 9, 1925, to Joseph and Alice Stocker.

Cecilia attended St. Mary of Redford elementary and high school. She later graduated from the University of Detroit with a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, where she also met her beloved husband, Calvin Worrel. After college, she worked at Parke Davis before dedicating herself to raising her family and being a full-time homemaker - a role she embraced with love, patience, and humor.

A devout Catholic throughout her life, Cecilia was an active member of St. Eugene Parish in Detroit and later St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Troy.

She enjoyed an active life and a curious mind. She loved playing tennis and continued to play well into her 80s. She was an avid bridge player - always ready to gather a table of friends wherever she could - even throughout her 90s. She was also a devoted reader, never without a book nearby.

Cecilia was a tireless cook, preparing a great variety of daily meals for her family - including seven always-hungry children. The meals were always lovingly prepared from scratch and there were rarely leftovers.

She is survived by her children: Judy (Tim), Gregory, James (Kristie), Peter (Shawn), Donald (Christine), and Bill (Kathy); her sister Katherine Brady and brother Robert Stocker; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her great joy throughout her long life. She was preceded in death by her husband Calvin and her son Michael.

She will be remembered for her steady encouragement, her selfless nature, and the quiet strength she carried through a century of life. Her greatest wish was always that her family be happy and cared for.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00PM at: A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home 2600 Crooks Rd, Troy, MI 48084

Funeral Mass will take place Monday, December 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 280 E Square Lake Rd, Troy, MI 48085. Visitation at the church begins at 9:30AM.
