Michael Joseph Langlois, Sr., age 77, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carol J. (Forget) Langlois with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
He was born in Lowell on June 3, 1946, and was the son of the late Alfred "Pat" F. and Genevieve E. (Siara) Langlois.
Michael's education began at St. Stanislaus (Polish) School where he received an excellent foundation for his Catholic faith and further studies which he continued on at Lowell High School and then Merrimack College in Andover, MA where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and the University of Maine at Orono where he earned a Master's degree. He continued his studies at Boston College Graduate School as well as the former University of Lowell. He was a teacher of French at Wellesley Junior High School for 12 years. Changing careers, he later worked at M/A-COM in
Burlington, MA, Mod-Tap in Harvard, MA and later retired from Atronix, Inc. in Billerica, MA.
A deeply religious person, he led adult education programs and was RCIA Director for several years at St. Rita Parish in Lowell, MA and later was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary of the Assumption in
Dracut, MA. He led book discussion groups at St. Kathryn's Parish in
Hudson, NH. While an infant he was diagnosed with polio and thanks to his mother's prayers and excellent care by the doctors and staff at Boston Children's Hospital he overcame that handicap to become an outdoor enthusiast and an avid country dancer as an adult. With his wife Carol he taught line dancing in the Community Ed programs of Billerica, Nashoba Valley Tech, Dracut, Greater Lowell Vocational and Chelmsford. He was a former treasurer and president of the New England Country Two-Steppers. A lover of the outdoors, as a boy he was a Scout in Troop Six of Holy Trinity (Polish) Parish and loved to hike in the Kenwood section of Dracut. As an adult he spent many happy hours canoeing, camping and hiking at Pawtuckaway State Park, NH and other New England natural areas with his wife and grandson Michael III. He enjoyed vacationing with his wife in Fort Meyers, FL and for several years spent many memorable summers with his extended family at their camp in
Barnstead, NH. He also enjoyed being with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren at their summer home on Frye Island at Sebago Lake, ME.
He served on the Dallas Park Condominium Association Board of Trustees from 1997 – 2012 and was Chairman for ten of those years. Later he continued service by performing light maintenance tasks around the community and was eventually called back to serve again on the Board as Chairman for several years. He served as a board member and was elected President of the Friends of the Dracut Elderly, a benevolent association which seeks to support Dracut Council on Aging programs and individual seniors who may be in need.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. While never considering himself a professional he did manage to entertain family, friends and seniors at the Dracut Senior Center and with his friend Rocky Provencher and was honored to participate in talent shows and holiday shows as one of "The Dallas Park Boys". Later he joined Bob Conroy and occasionally Rocky to appear on Dracut Access TV as "The Gold Tones". For years he was an occasional letter writer to the Lowell Sun on subjects concerning his beloved Catholic Church and its teachings as well as national politics.
In addition to his loving wife Carol, Michael leaves his son, Michael Langlois, Jr. and his partner Jennifer Lindsey of Merrimack, NH; his daughter, Danielle Angelo and her husband Leonard of
Amherst, NH; his grandchildren, Michael Langlois III, and Samantha and Zachary Angelo; former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Langlois of NH; sister-in-law, Claudine Langlois of MA; and brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Annette Forget of ME; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was sadly predeceased by his brothers, Richard and Robert Langlois and sisters-in-law, Jane (McCartney) Langlois and Rose (O'Connell) Langlois.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 9am to 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 115 Wheeler Rd., Dracut followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am.
