Michael "Mike" Lazar passed away at the age of 83 on January 30, 2025.
Mike grew up on the west side of Chicago before moving to Albany Park, where he met and fell in love with his wife, Betsy. He and Betsy then moved to Sauganash Park where they raised their children and lived for over 50 years, building many friendships and unforgettable memories.
Mike enjoyed taking his family for drives, referring to getting lost as "misplaced on the map". He also served in the Army Reserves and enjoyed telling stories of his experience with his buddies. Mike enjoyed poker, horse racing, bowling, and golfing; and always was the first to feed his nieces and nephews pop, ice cream, anything with sugar and pickles. Mike will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Beloved husband of Betsy for over 60 years; adored dad of Michele (Don) Baker, Jeff (Tracy) Lazar; cherished grandpa of AJ Baker, Michael Lazar (Joey), and Gina Lazar; caring son of the late Sidney and Diana; loving brother of Jerry (Sue), and the late Larry and Jay Lazar; fond brother-in-law to Martin (Sylvia) Nigliazzo, Leona (the late Bill) Gleason, the late Michael Nigliazzo, Anthony Nigliazzo, and David (the late Mindy) Nigliazzo; fond uncle and great uncle to many.
A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the outdoor mausoleum of All Saints Cemetery, 700 N. River Rd., Des Plaines, IL, 60016. Arrangements entrusted to Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For info, 847-359-8020.
