Over ten years later—I still remember you, Michael. Much love.
Mike McCarthy

Your kind words of condolences and support here on the guestbook have helped to strengthen our family during this sad time. It has been a blessing to know that so many people loved Michael and care for us.
Michael accepted Christ into his life at a Promise Keepers convention he attended with his Dad and Grandpa. He walked down stadium stairs by himself and confirmed his love for the Lord.
He was very honest and never stole, cheated on a test or put anyone down to elevate himself. We never heard him gossip or speak ill of anyone and he always put others needs before his.
He loved learning about science, history, art and all the different courses he took in college. College Professors as well high school and elementary teachers spoke with us in person and by cards about what a wonderful student he was.
He had a great curiosity about this world and the best memory I have ever seen. Everyone that knew him were blessed and inspired by his life.
In closing I would like to share a poem that I read at his burial.

We are very grateful to everyone who posted here or contacted us in other ways offering condolences and support. This has been a very sad time for us but your kind words and prayers have kept us strong.
Our family has many wonderful memories of Michael that will be with us for the rest of our lives. He had a caring, loving heart and an incredible memory and thirst for knowledge.
He never hurt anyone to further his own standing, never cheated in school and never spoke ill of anyone. Never bragged about his accomplishments and was always complimentary of friends and
family.
He invited Christ into his life at a Promise Keepers convention with his Dad and Grandpa. On his own, with no coaching from us, he walked down and asked Christ into his life.
At his burial, I said a prayer which I would like to share here.
PRAYER FOR MY SON
Travel well my son
Free from the burdens of this world
And rest
In the loving arms of Jesus

For the Eagle Scout who came up with the idea one holiday Season some years ago and passed it by his grandma Linda...
...To ask other high school Scouts to join him in bringing a festive Season to me, which included cutting down a Christmas tree and installing it in my home with all the trimmings and decorating it on site, singing Christmas carols while working, and finally, graciously presenting me with a special gift! Then in January, this fine Eagle Scout completed the leadership work by personally picking up the tree and decorations, and ensuring that my home was put back in order. That's a pretty sweet story, right? And it's all true.
Yet what lingers with me from that delightful experience arise from the finer points of this Eagle Scout, that is, Michael McCarthy, II. He displayed a remarkable sensitivity to a sick old lady, you know? He called and arranged for their presence in my home for times that would be better for my health, rather than better for the group. When present in my home, Michael watched over me while the Scouts worked with the elements of the tree to ensure that I was "okay" and that I wasn't getting overtired from the people or the noise. Again, a quiet, caring spirit, from such a young man at the time. He expected nothing of me when the tree was delivered and set up and he expected nothing of me when the tree was picked up; he wanted me only to lie down and rest, to take care of myself and allow him to serve me if he could help in any way, otherwise he, and the other Scouts were happy to bring Seasonal joy into my home with the tree.
Michael, II, I have just learned of your passing up into the LORD's arms this afternoon, so your memorial service has taken place. My heart weeps for the loss to your mom and dad, to your sister, Amanda, and to all of your grandparents, particularly the two I know so very well, and with whom you went on many exploratory and historical vacations with--Mike, Sr. and Linda McCarthy. Your cousins must be hurting, your aunts and uncles, your work colleagues, your friends...
Only God knows, only God knows. You are conversing with the Divinity in person now, how marvelous that must be! (Is there a word for it??) I pray those prayerful conversation grant you the peace, the contentment, the joy, the comfort, and healing, and His unfailing Love, and more and more and more of His Goodness forevermore as you receive His Holy Rest in your prepared Mansion. We shall miss you and continue to love you, Michael. We will also support and help those who were your nearest and d
dearest, and care for their grieving, and pray that we can show a measure of your sensitivity and joy to your beloved--for that would be an overflowing cup. Thanks for showing the way, Michael!
Your friend,
Suzette Rowland

Never knew him on a personal level just had the privledge to see the kind of person he was. Went to Jr High with him and he was always a well spoken, positive, great role model. I'd always see him running around my neighborhood on Country Club drive and it'd always bring a smile to my face. So sorry for the loss his loved ones recieved. God bless.
