Michael Patrick McCloskey, formerly of Winter Springs, FL, died peacefully at home in Charlotte, NC, on May 27, surrounded by family and friends. He was 33.
Born in Toms River, NJ, Michael grew up in Winter Springs, where he graduated from Winter Springs High School and then from Regis College in Weston, MA. There, he majored in business management and was captain of the men's basketball team that, in 2015, won the program's first-ever NECC Championship and NCAA Tournament bid.
Following graduation, Michael took his management and leadership skills to the business world, working his way up to Water Restoration Operations Manager for Roto-Rooter in the Baltimore area and then on to Mitigation Review Specialist for Winter Park-based Suredge, working in Charlotte.
There, he met his lifetime love, Riley Stahl, who quickly became family. They began making a home together and had set a wedding date for June 14.
Michael had an Irish gleam in his eyes, a smile that lit up the world, and an infectious joy for life. "PVO," he was quick to remind family, friends, teammates, colleagues, and all those blessed to know him: "Positive vibes only."
He loved his sports, especially basketball throughout high school and college and golf later, quick to hone his skills whenever possible. He loved the camaraderie of teammates, the competition and shared accomplishments, and all the accompanying memorabilia-and beverages-never one to turn down a John Daley cocktail!
He collected baseball caps and sneakers, and even while spending his later days in his hospital "penthouse," ordered a pair of hard-to-get Jordans. He smiled just to know they'd arrived at his door.
He loved his snacks-Cheez-Its and gummi bears, especially-and always ordered a burger with cheese and "nothing from the garden" on it.
He had a childlike giggle and delighted in doing whatever it took to make others laugh along with him.
But above all else, Michael treasured his family. He was a role model for his siblings - the quintessential big brother. Lifelong love for his fiancé. And shining light for his parents.
Michael is survived by his parents, Scott and Kim, fiancé Riley Stahl, sister Lauren McCaffrey and her husband Trey; brothers Colin and his wife Hannah Forliti and Jack and his girlfriend Syniah Clark; his loyal companions, Brady and Enzo; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. #McCloskeyStrong.
A celebration of life will be held on August 23, 2025, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Tuscawilla Country Club, 1500 Winter Springs Blvd., Winter Springs, FL 32708.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. A fundraising page in his name can be found at Colorectal Cancer Alliance
