Hon. Michael J. Miller

Michael J. Miller passed away on July 3, 2024, at the age of 85. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Hinda; his mother and father, Robert Miller and Miriam B. Miller; and by his sister, Joan Miller Wolk. He is survived by children Caralyn (Alan) Ross and Jonathan Miller; grandchildren Emma Ross, Isabel Ross, Nathan Ross, Matthew Ross, Theodore Miller, and Dustin Miller; nieces and nephews.
Michael graduated from Monroe High School in 1956 and from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in 1960. He earned a J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law and returned to Rochester to practice law with his father. Michael practiced law in Rochester for 50 years.
Michael devoted much of his life to public service, having served as councilman of the Town of Brighton for 16 years, chair of the Monroe County Democratic Committee from 1986-1988, and as Monroe County Family Court Judge from 1990-2000.
He was the recipient of many community awards, including the Nathaniel Award for outstanding service to the legal community and the Hannah G. Solomon Humanitarian Award from the National Council of Jewish Women.
Michael lived his life by two principles set forth by Rabbi, philosopher, and teacher Abraham Joshua Herschel. First, "There is no unimportant act of kindness," and second, "God is hiding in the world. It is up to us to reveal God through our deeds."
Services will be held SUNDAY July 7, 2024 at 11 AM at Temple B'rith Kodesh (2131 Elmwood Avenue, Rochester, New York 14618). for a map to Temple.

Shiva will be observed from 3 – 5 PM on SUNDAY and 5 – 7 PM on MONDAY at Temple B'rith Kodesh.
