Michael Mirabelli Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home on Jul. 18, 2023.
Michelangelo "Mike" Mirabelli of Middletown and Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on July 16, 2023, at the Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Middletown. He was 83.
Mike was born in San Tommaso, municipality of Soveria Mannelli, in the province of Catanzaro, Italy, and was the son of Antonio and Rosina (Cardamone) Mirabelli.
He emigrated to the United States and lived most of his life in Hartford's west end. A graduate of Hartford High School, Mike served in the United States Army for 6 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E5).
He graduated from Central Connecticut State College (University) with a bachelor's degree in education and taught second-grade students in the Hartford Public School System at the New Park Avenue School.
Mike was a faithful communicant at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Hartford, where he was an active member of the choir for many years. He loved classical music, opera and especially sacred music.
Mike was a kind, gentle and generous man with a great sense of humor and tremendous resilience, all of which served him well as he dealt with serious physical ailments throughout his life. His strength and humility in the face of adversity were a model for his extended family, all of whom spent their lives laughing along with, and wholly devoted to, their dear Uncle Mike.
Mike leaves two sisters, Flora Rovella and Fernanda Caligiuri, and a brother, Anthony Mirabelli. He is predeceased by his sister, Ida Dellaripa, and brothers Vittorio and Federico Mirabelli.
He is also survived and beloved by many nephews, nieces and cousins throughout the U.S., Canada and Italy.
Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 79 New Park Avenue, Hartford.
