Michael Alexander Mitchell

It is with deep love and sorrow that the family of Micheal Alexander Mitchell, age 75, announces his passing on December 1, 2025, in Lakeland, Florida. Born on April 17, 1950, to the late James Guy Mitchell and Murril Yancey Waters, Micheal was also lovingly raised by his stepfather William Waters. His life was marked by courage, passion, and resilience.
Micheal attended Kathleen High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Army, where he served his country with honor. His military service earned him multiple awards and recognitions, and though he returned home as a disabled combat veteran, he carried his experiences with strength and pride. Following his honorable discharge, Micheal pursued higher education at Hillsborough Community College, studying Criminal and Civil Law, a testament to his determination to continue learning and growing.
Micheal grew up alongside his sister Debi Mitchell Battles and brother Douglas Waters and is preceded in death by his brother James Guy "Mickey" Mitchell and sister Patricia Funari.
He was married to Nancy Ann Morgan, who also preceded him in death on December 1, 2025. Together they had two daughters, Gloria Lynn Mitchell and Cindy Luree Mitchell.
Micheal was affectionately known as "Grandpa Mike" to his eight grandchildren, and he also leaves behind six great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by 5 nieces and nephews, who knew him as a man defined by determination, intensity, and a no-nonsense approach to life.
Beyond his professional and military achievements, Micheal's greatest joys were found in his passions and pursuits. He spent much of his life building race cars, a pursuit that led to an award-winning race car among his prized possessions, alongside his cherished antique Corvette. He was an avid stock car racing enthusiast, loved riding motorcycles, scuba diving, playing tennis, and capturing life's moments through photography. Micheal also enjoyed deer hunting, camping, and archery, hobbies that reflected his love of the outdoors and his adventurous nature. A dedicated gun collector, he was known for his storytelling, often relaying tales of his military adventures with friends and family, always with a twinkle in his eye and a joke at the ready. His grandchildren will forever remember the lessons shared by Grandpa Mike, who never missed a chance to remind them of the importance of courage and perseverance.
Micheal will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his humor, and his relentless drive; never shying away from hardship and always pushing forward with intensity. He lived life at full throttle, weathering storms with determination and leaving behind a legacy as unforgettable as the roar of his engines.
