Michael “Mike” W. Murphy, 73, of Chillicothe died Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born September 15, 1950 in Peoria, the son of Hap and Norma (Flynn) Murphy. He married Cheryl J Myers on May 12, 1973 in Chillicothe, she survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Tobi Murphy.
Surviving are two children Tony Murphy of St Charles, IL and Addi Mercer (Keith) of Edelstein, IL; five grandchildren; Bella & Brig Murphy and Brynn, Brie & Brayden Mercer.
Mike was a United States Vietnam Veteran. He was a member for more than 50 years of the IBEW, Local #34. He had attended Bradley University in Peoria and was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Mike was a lifelong member of Arrowhead Country Club as well as the American Legion Post 9 and VFW Post 4999 in Chillicothe.
Funeral services will be at 11am Monday January 22, 2024, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm Sunday January 21, 2024. Additional visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will be at Chillicothe City Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a luncheon at the American Legion immediately following services. Memorials may be made to the Chillicothe Community Needs.
