Michael Neely Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jun. 4, 2024.
It is with tremendous grief and the heaviest of hearts that we announce the death of Michael Ray Neely of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who passed away on June 1, 2024, at the age of 49. Michael was born in Okeene, Oklahoma, on March 31, 1975, to Lisa Mae Chase.
Michael attended Moore High School. As a young man, he heard his country's call and joined the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge for services rendered to his country when called upon to do so. After his military service, Michael went to work for Fed-Ex Freight for 14 years. In 2008, he and his family took a leap of faith so he could fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming an officer for the Oklahoma City Police Department. After years in patrol and rotations in multiple specialized units, he got his most coveted position in the solo motor unit, which was the highlight of his career.
Michael had a kind, giving heart, especially for other people. Being a police officer was truly his calling, and he loved his job so much that he hardly considered it work. His charisma, sense of humor, and his unique ability to get along with everyone helped steer his success for the sixteen years he was with the Oklahoma City Police Department. He was an incredibly hard worker and an excellent provider for his family.
With his larger-than-life personality, Michael's influence reached far beyond his family and career. His genuine warmth and generosity profoundly impacted everyone fortunate enough to know him. He truly loved talking to people, and Michael was a friend to everyone-a man who would drop anything he was doing in order to help someone in need.
Away from the job, you could usually find Michael woodworking, hosting family nights, keeping up with the Sooners and Dallas Cowboys, or spoiling his three wiener dogs, Dobie, Scrappy Dappy Doo, and Sam. Yet, of all the things that brought him happiness, nothing brought him more pride and joy than his beloved family. Michael was a loving husband, father, brother, and uncle, and a loyal friend to so many. As we reflect on a life lost far too soon, let us remember Michael Ray Neely for his patriotism, his love for his fellow man, and, of course, his unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by two sons, Jacob Neely of Norman, OK, and Taylor Neely of Oklahoma City, OK; his three stepdaughters, Ashton Crawford, Chloe Bundy, and Brooklyn Bundy of Oklahoma City, OK; his stepson, Christian Long of Enid, OK; his sister, Sara Gwaltney of Florida; his former wife and friend, Ashley Neely, grandparents Doyle and Rosemary Neely, along with his brothers and sisters of the Oklahoma City Police Department, and many more loving family members and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Lisa Mae Chase, his first wife and the mother of his sons, Jeany Marks Neely, his stepson, Evan Crawford, as well as grandparents Patsy and Jack Shires, Felicia and E.J. Walbaum, and Billy Chase.
