Michael Eric Nix

Michael Eric Nix, age 53, of Tuscaloosa, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Circlewood Baptist Church, with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held for 2 hours prior to the service, from 12-2 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will immediately follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, under the direction of Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Michael was a native and lifelong resident of Tuscaloosa. After graduating from West End Christian School, he attended and graduated from UAB's Respiratory Care Program. Throughout his 23-year career at DCH Regional Medical Center, he was a talented Registered Respiratory Therapist. In 1994, during his tenure at DCH, he met Gina Sparks, in Trauma 5, while teaching her to draw arterial blood gases. Gina later became his wife. In 2013, Michael made a career change, becoming the corporate pilot for McAbee Inc. where he was employed until his death.
Michael was musically gifted, he played the piano and sang, as a member of the Capstone Quartet for many years. A Christian by faith, he was a member of Circlewood Baptist Church, where he also served as a Deacon and Choir Member. Michael had a lifelong love of Dachshunds and was especially partial to his precious 11-year old Scarlett Rose. A special thank you to our dear friend Mama Shirley Albright for love and care of our sweet Scarlett.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Ouida Jane Hayes Nix & Billy Fred Nix, as well as his grandparents: Ramsey & Ouida Hayes and John & Grace Nix.
He is survived by his wife, of almost 25 years, Gina Sparks Nix; daughter Madeline Rhae Nix; brothers Jim (Leann) Nix and Tim (Ginger) Nix and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Lillie Cannon, Neil Daniel, John Glen Freeman, Anna Grace Mansell, Drew Mansell, Madeline Nix, Tyler Nix, Jason Reeves, Glenn Snyder and Michael Wright.
