Michael O'Melia

MICHAEL OMELIA
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Michael Keene O'Melia passed away at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on January 27, 2025. He had recently retired after almost twenty years as Deputy Director with the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Property Tax Division. He was 67 years old.
Michael attended Kenyon College in Ohio and following his graduation, he assisted the family real estate business in New York where he obtained his real estate appraisal credentials. Shortly thereafter, Michael was hired by Chase Manhattan Bank (Chemical Bank) and served as V.P., Chase Real Estate Finance, Underwriting and Evaluation Group. There, he was sent to Hong Kong and London among many other locations. Michael then joined Lehman Brothers in New York City where his talent and intelligence were quickly recognized and he soon became Senior Vice President, Global Real Estate Finance Bank Loans Group. In 2001, Michael was in the Lehman offices next to the World Trade Center on that horrible day on 9/11. Deciding that he needed a life change, he relocated to Santa Fe.
Michael loved his job, his friends, his family, his DKE fraternity brothers, and New Mexico. He had the talent from an early age to make friends and keep them for life. He had a passion for shooting sports and was an excellent marksman. Michael will be remembered for his intelligence, his great sense of humor, his wit and his kindness. He is survived by his sister Johanna and his brother-in-law Michael Waldock.
A memorial service will be held for Michael OMelia on Saturday, April 26th at Noon at the Berardinelli McGee Event Center, 1320 Luisa Street in Santa Fe.
