On the 17th of February 2025, Michael Kenneth Palmateer passed away gently in his sleep at Saratoga Hospital of acute respiratory distress. Mike was 67 years old.
Mike was a 1976 graduate of Galway Central School and the WSWHE BOCES program for Heavy Equipment Operators. He worked through his younger years at Mr. B's, Bill's Dug-Out, and manager of many Pizza Huts. During the thirty years he spent at the Hut he made many friends. His dream of owning his own restaurant became a reality when he bought the Charlton General Store and Café. Mike worked day and night to make that dream come true until he was stricken with sepsis in 2018.
Mike was an avid Giants Fan. He was a member of the infamous East Galway Bushmasters Snowmobile Club and a volunteer at Harmony Corners Fire Department. Mike enjoyed hunting, deep sea fishing with his dad, riding snowmobiles with his "Winter Friend" and his family, and cooking for every party. He loved to make people laugh and had quite the sense of humor. Mike was a stubborn man, just ask anyone!
Mike is survived by his wife Diane (Gotham), they would have been married 46 years this May, sharing their lives since they were 15 years old. He is also survived by his "eldest daughter" Tiffany (David Armitage), and his "youngest daughter" Lisa, his "granddaughter" Natalie Winner and her "squeeze toy" Caleb, his "grandson" Joshua Armitage, his "granddaughter" Sadie, and his only male comrade in the house, his dog Gibbs. Mike was a husband, father, grandfather, friend, uncle to his favorite nieces "Toots" (Chrissy) and Jenny Lynn, and nephew "Little Bob." He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be sorely missed by all.
Mike was predeceased by his father and stepmother Kenneth and Lucy, mother Carol and brother Jamie (Sharon).
Thank you to the amazing staff of Saratoga Hospital. The two weeks on the third floor until he said he was going home (for 3 days) then back to the ED and ICU for the last 11 days. The staff including doctors, nurses, cleaning staff and our lunch lady that saved him his chocolate milk were all wonderful. They all gave us so much support and went way above their way to keep us all comfortable and informed. We appreciate you all!
At Mike's request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the charity of your choice.
