Michael Peters Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Michael J. Peters, (Mike) (Pete), 77, of North Canton, Ohio walked off the mound one last time, passing peacefully at home on July 5th, 2025 with his family by his side.
Born July 23, 1947 in Canton Ohio, he is the son of the late Joseph and Virginia (Schick) Peters. Mike graduated from North Canton Hoover High School in 1965 where he excelled at football, basketball and baseball for the Vikings.
On June 15, 1968 Mike married his high school sweetheart, Kim Karpp, sharing 57 years of marriage while raising three boys, Matthew (Tammy), Scott, and Christopher (Jody).
His passion was coaching youth football for many years in the North Canton Midget Football League where he was not only an excellent coach, but influential in many young men's lives offering support and advice in the game of life during and after their time on one of his teams. He will forever be proud of his four-peat teams.
Mike could be found under the Friday night lights at a Vikings football game in the fall, a basketball game during the winter, or at a baseball diamond in the spring. His love of everything Viking Orange and Black was immense. In addition, he was a devoted fan of the Browns, Indians and Boston Celtics through good times and not so good times. He had a plan to get the Browns and Indians back to their winning ways, all you had to do was ask him and he would share his thoughts!
Employed as a plumbing and heating contractor for many years he took great pride in serving his customers for over the years. Many of which became friends.
When not coaching or attending a sporting event, he loved boating on Lake Erie out of Port Clinton and racing the Jet Express to Put in Bay and teaching anyone who asked how to water ski.
His charming smile, demeanor, rib crushing hugs and firm handshake will be deeply missed by family and many friends but never forgotten!
He is survived by wife, Kim; sons, Matthew (Tammy) of Liberty Twp Ohio, Scott of North Canton, Ohio and Christopher (Jody) of North Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Corey (Caley), Ashley, Aaron, Carley, Nate and Alex. In June 2025, he got to meet his first great-granddaughter, Charleigh Mae; as well as family, Joe Peters Jr (Theresa) of East Sparta, Ohio, Mark and Marsha (Manfull) Peters of North Canton, Ohio, Larry and Marcia Sweitzer; many nieces, nephews and many brothers from different mothers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ginny; father-in-law, DeForest Karpp; mother-in-law, Sylvia (Willaman) Karpp; first grandchild, Casey Michael Peters.
In honoring Mikes wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Cremation was entrusted to Heritage Cremation and Burial Society. A celebration of life will be held on September 28, 2025 from 2-4pm at the Greentown Athletic Club.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mike's name to the North Canton Sideliners or The Orange Crush Boosters.
