Michael Albert Reek died suddenly and unexpectedly on September 22, 2023. Mike was born January 2, 1979, to Albert and Joan (Kohlman) Reek in Marinette. He was raised in his family's home, that was built by his father, on highway 64. Mike had many fond memories growing up there with his three older brothers: Steve, Dave, and Dan. It was during those early years that his love grew for motorcycles and four wheelers. He would reminisce about riding with his friends, going on adventures, and the many memories made with family and friends. These were memories that he cherished and talked about frequently.
Mike is a 1997 graduate of Marinette High School. While he was still in high school he began working at Prestige Auto Body. It was there where he encountered many great mentors, but was especially fond of Jerry and Ray. He felt like they helped mold him into becoming the diligent autobody collision repair tech that he was. Eventually Mike would take over that very business that he loved. He was always there to help friends, family, and strangers with their vehicles. His reputation of his meticulous eye for details received high praise by others.
In 2001, Mike was set up on a blind date with the girl who would later become his wife and mother of his three children: Landon (17), Sullivan (11) and Blainey (4). Mike and Sara were wed in 2015 at a ceremony that was held on the land of their country farm house in Menominee. Mike found living with his family at the farmhouse peaceful, relaxing and he very much enjoyed the property.
Mike loved many things in life including spending time with his childhood friends and especially their trips to Montana. He also loved Thursday night bowling, time spent with his brothers, attending concerts, working on the barn and restoring classic cars. Some of his favorite projects included the Fairlane, Camero, Caprice, 1978 F-150, and the AC Cobra that he worked on with his friend, Dick Myers. Mike was always proud of his restorations and valued the relationships that he made with all those who loved a classic car as he did.
Over the years Mike enjoyed traveling with his wife and children on many family trips. Some of Mike and Sara's more memorable vacations included Seattle, England, Ireland, and Jamaica. He loved road trips with the children which included seeing the Smokey Mountains, Mount Rushmore, Niagara Falls, and trips to Florida. Mike and Sara were greatly looking forward to going back to Jamaica this December to where they had spent their honeymoon.
Above all else, Mike was a family man who cherished his family and being a Dad. He enjoyed going to his oldest son Landon's soccer games and watching him be an excellent goalkeeper. He also looked forward to doing the yearly Christmas bowling tournaments with Landon as his partner. He was happy that Landon was going to be a substitute on his bowling league and he could spend more time with him doing something they both enjoyed. He was so proud seeing Landon follow in his footsteps, sharing an interest in mechanics and learning how things worked. He was excited to see what he was going to do after high school.
Mike also loved watching his second son, Sully play hockey. He was excited for him to start the upcoming hockey season and watch him progress as a player. Mike loved Sully's sense of humor and wit. He was amazed by Sullivan's ability to assemble Lego sets with ease and his little need for guidance or directions. He loved watching his boys be great big brothers to Blainey.
Mike's family was completed in 2019 with the birth his little girl, Blainey. He lovingly called her "his little buddy" as she followed him everywhere. Going for gator rides to get an apple off the tree was their nightly routine before he would put her to bed. He would spend time picking out the precise stuffed animal from each of his trips just for her. It would be undisputed that Blainey had him wrapped around her little finger. He was never afraid to tell and show his wife and kids how much he loved them.
Mike was a wonderful husband and spent many hours fixing up his house and spending time with Sara. He was a kind soul with a quick smile and never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a great business man and community member. He loved sponsoring "Prestige Auto Body" soccer teams. He was loved by so many.
He is survived by wifes Sara (Thoney): children: Landon, Sullivan, and Blainey. He is further survived by his mother, Joan Reek and three brothers: Steve (Chris), Dave (Andrea) and Dan. Also his Uncle Bob, Aunt Donna and Aunt Betty. He loved his nieces and nephews and watching them grow into the adults they are today which included: Alyssa (Chad), Amanda (Tyler), Adam (Bailey), Mikayla (Cade), Mikennah, Tahya, Jenna, Jacob, Sylvia, and Breanna. He also had many great nieces and nephews. Mother-in-law, Linda Thoney and brother-in-laws, Scott (April) Thoney and Thomas Thoney.
He had many great friends, all who he loved and cherished. He had a group of childhood friends that remained close and he considered them his family as well and spoke fondly of them often.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Reek; nephew, Miles Reek; father-in-law, Lee Thoney; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30th at Thielen Funeral Home from noon until time of service at 3pm. Chaplain Craig Mansur will be officiating.
A note from Mike's wife, Sara: There are really no words to adequately express the appreciation I have to everyone who has reached out. Our family has been showered in love and support, and for that I thank you all. Mike loved a muscle car, motorcycle, or classic car and for those who own any of the above I ask you to please drive it to the funeral and park out front on Newberry Ave. I believe Mike would have enjoyed seeing this.
