Michael John Roberts, age 76, of
Jacksonville, North Carolina, formerly of West Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, following a long and courageous battle with his health.
Michael was born on December 19, 1948, in
Elmhurst, Illinois, the eldest of five boys. From a young age, he learned the value of responsibility, sacrifice, and family, often putting others before himself. These values shaped the man he became and the legacy he leaves behind.
A lifelong learner, Michael believed that education and curiosity never ended. Though he delayed completing high school to help support his family, he later earned his GED. He continued his education well into his 60s, obtaining his license in ministry and expanding his knowledge in computers and genealogy. He frequently reminded his children and grandchildren that it is never too late to grow, learn, or chase new goals.
Michael dedicated a significant portion of his professional life to public service and security, working in various roles, including orderly, EMT, dispatcher, and security officer. He spent many years in hospital security and later at DuPage Airport, eventually returning to work in a retirement community where he became known not only for keeping residents safe, but for bringing joy-playing Santa Claus, DJing parties, and creating moments of happiness for residents and their families. For over 50 years, he worked in the security field, always emphasizing safety, responsibility, and integrity.
On a personal level, Michael was known as "the life of the party." He loved music, dancing, storytelling, and hosting family gatherings filled with laughter and home-cooked meals. His famous spaghetti sauce was a favorite among his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed classic television shows such as Bonanza, MASH, Mama's Family, and, more recently, he enjoyed shows like Supernatural and Blue Bloods. Music was always playing in his home, especially during holidays, which held a special place in his heart.
Family meant everything to Michael. He was married to his beloved wife, Carolyn, for 53 years, standing by her side through life's joys and challenges. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Catherine Glowacki, Corryne Poskocil, and Christina Amos, and a proud father-in-law to Jim Glowacki, Charles Poskocil, and Thomas Amos.
Michael was a loving brother to Russell, David, and Norman Roberts, and a cherished brother-in-law to Tina Roberts, as well as deeply loved by his wife's brothers, sisters, and their spouses. He extended his love generously to a large family of nieces and nephews on both sides, treating each with care and affection.
Nothing brought Michael greater joy than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with Alethea Rea Mendes, Franco Mendes, Christian Amos-Roberts, Scarlet Amos, Andrew Beyer, Henry Beyer, and Savannah Amos, as well as his great-grandchildren, Coralene Octavia Amos-Roberts and Rafaelita Zita Mendes. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and celebrated their successes as his own.
Within the family, Michael was affectionately known as "the Historian." For nearly 30 years, he dedicated himself to researching and preserving the Roberts family history, as well as assisting with his wife's family genealogy. This passion ensured that stories, names, and memories would be passed down for generations to come.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Elinor and Richard Raymond Roberts; his brother, Russell Roberts; his sister-in-law, Debbie Roberts; his grandparents, Elisabeth and Raymond Snowberg, and John and Margaret Roberts; and his beloved granddaughter, Sophia Analiese Amos.
Michael John Roberts will be remembered for his joyful spirit, unwavering devotion to family, deep curiosity, and generous heart. He welcomed everyone as family, lived life fully, and loved fiercely. Though he will be deeply missed, his laughter, stories, and legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
