Michael Theodore Robinson Sr. passed away in
St George, Utah on February 14, 2024 from complications of a heart attack and kidney failure. Michael was born September 27, 1937 in
Cedar City, Utah to Theodore Robinson and Marion Alice Lindsay. Michael grew up in
Beaver, Utah until the age of ten. His family lived at the Telluride Power Plant in Beaver Canyon. He learned at an early age to love and appreciate the outdoors and became an expert fisherman with the help of his grandfather Lindsay and his mother's younger brothers. His family moved to
Culver City, California in 1947. Michael had a hard time with the move and never seemed to fully forgive his mother and father for taking him away from all that he loved about Beaver and leaving all of his friends and relatives, but he soon adjusted with the help of having a horse or two around and began to enjoy the California life.
Michael's first memory of accomplishment after moving there was his discovery of his athletic abilities when competing in a Cub Scout track meet where he won every event. Michael excelled in sports while attending Culver High. He was the starting guard on the basketball team his junior year when Culver High won the California State CIF championship. The school recognized that accomplishment fifty years later when they honored the team at halftime at one of the basketball games. Michael was a star football player and was the starting quarterback his senior year and scored seven touch downs in one game. Michael's high school club was called the Barons. He had many good friends from high school whom he kept in contact with over the years and always enjoyed reminiscing with them.
Michael and Barbara were high school sweethearts and married on his birthday in 1956 so he would never have an excuse for missing their anniversary. Michael and Barbara were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on September 25, 1965. After high school, Michael laid tile and then attended night school at Santa Monica Junior College in the electrical apprentice program and began working for Arco Electric. Upon graduation from the apprentice program, one of the instructors told his father that Michael was the best man they had ever graduated from the program. Michael loved being an electrician and loved seeing a project come out of the ground and seeing it through to the finish.
Michael's love of Beaver never left him and he was there hunting and taking vacations as much as he could. Michael and Barbara chose to move there in 1970 and began an electrical contracting business with one of Michael's grade school friends, Karl Miller. RED INC was formed and Michael enjoyed serving Southern Utah for over fifty years. He especially enjoyed partnering and working with his son Paul. He worked his last day on Thursday, February 8th at the fertilizer plant making sure everything was just right.
Michael served the community as a member of the Jaycees, as a member of the Beaver City Council and as chairman of the CTBC racing committee. Michael enjoyed all aspects of the outdoors especially riding horses on the trails in the Tushar Mountain Range. He liked to see things as they were and you will not see his name or initials on any tree in the forest. He was a conservationist that enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting. He especially excelled at shotgun shooting and helped form and manage the Beaver Trap Club. Horse racing was also one of Michael's passions which he thoroughly enjoyed and where he developed many lasting friendships.
Michael was very generous with his time in helping others succeed especially with his children and grandchildren. He loved seeing others use their talents to excel in any endeavor. Michael was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in a variety of callings including Scout Master, Elder's Quorum President, High Councilman and Bishop of the Beaver 6th Ward. Michael loved Barbara and his family and they created many life-long memories together which will always be kept in the forefront of their minds. Michael always felt that he lived the best life and lived in the best era of time. Michael is survived by his wife Barbara, sister Annette Brosnan (Bill) and sons Michael Jr. (Jody), Daniel (Michon), Clay (Joanie) and Paul (Jodi), seventeen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Alan (Connie) and granddaughters Clayne J Robinson and Maggie Lyn Robinson.
