Michael J. Ross

Michael J. Ross, 72, of Commiskey, passed away at 3:10 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.
Born June 6, 1953, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Alex J. and Nancy Jo (Stagman) Ross. He married Sinda "Sue" Sergent on October 22, 1973, at the Commiskey Church of God in Commiskey; she survives.
Michael was a 1971 graduate of Jennings County High School. He was a Union Pipefitter for Pipefitter Local #440 in Indianapolis for 44 years before retiring in 2015. Michael enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and riding dirt bikes. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, watching the news and was a Ozzy Osbourne fan.
Surviving with his wife of 51 years, Sue, are his daughters, Melissa (Mike) Humphrey of Madison and Jessica (Nathan) Marshall of Columbus; brother, Scott J. Ross of Butlerville; sister, GiGi (Kenny) Wison of North Vernon; grandchildren, Lily Stidham and Clayton Stidham, both of North Vernon and Sidney Marshall and Jackson Marshall both of Columbus; and great-grandchild, Aria Smith of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A public funeral service for Michael will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14. 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. The visitation for family and friends will take place after the funeral service from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Memorials in honor of Michael may be made through the funeral home to Lancaster Baptist Church.
