Michael B. Schallehn

After living a life filled with love, joy and a multitude of fascinating activities, Michael "Mike" B. Schallehn, 66, devoted husband and father, left this earth on August 26, 2025. For the months and weeks leading up to his departure, his house was filled with family and friends, a testimony that he was loved and admired by many.

Mike graduated from the Ballston Spa High School in 1977. Soon after, he started his own business-Magnum Transport. From there, he progressed on to working as a fuel transport driver. Mike always came home with so many interesting stories of life on the road. Mike closed out his work life at NYSDEC, a job where he could apply his love of nature to the preservation and protection of the beauty of the Adirondacks.

Mike's interests, skills, abilities and hobbies were incredibly diverse. He was an expert mechanic, a carpenter, a hunter, a hiker and camper in all seasons, a voracious reader, and a man who always enjoyed a good movie. But most of all, Mike truly enjoyed helping others in whatever way he could. Mike certainly lived by the credo, "Love One Another."

Mike is predeceased by his parents Eugene D. and Irene P. Schallehn. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary "Suz" (Novak) Schallehn of 41 years; as well as his Mother-In-Law, Mary McGrath; children, Valerie Jene (Greg) Bonfey and Lucien Michael (Madeline) Schallehn; three loving grandchildren, Irenah and Andrew Bonfey, and Lucien Schallehn; siblings, Bernie (Alta) Schallehn and Gina Schallehn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family of Mike Schallehn wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to all who supported us in the last several months of Mike's life, including the Hospice nurses, doctors, and staff, and Barb Schallehn, who provided compassionate care to both Mike and his family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Mike at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Milton Ave., Ballston Spa on Saturday morning, August 30th at 9:30am, followed by burial at Ballston Spa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, where he adopted his beloved canine companion, Pete.
