Michael Richard "Mike" Schmidt

Michael R. ("Mike") Schmidt, 73, passed away suddenly at home in Cincinnati on March 21, 2025.
A proud graduate of St. Xavier High School, Xavier University, and the Salmon P. Chase College of Law, Mike practiced law for over four decades in downtown Cincinnati. Mike left a legacy of craftsmanship, decency and service in his law practice, and believed strongly in supporting Legal Aid and Volunteer Lawyers for the Poor. Mike engaged in service in many other ways, including his work at St. Vincent DePaul, reading for the blind, and for a number of community civic associations. Mike believed that it was possible to be an excellent trial lawyer and good person, demonstrating this by mentoring many young lawyers over the years, including his son.
Mike was humble and soulful. He loved to hike in the woods and mountains, listening to jazz music, grilling steaks, travel and ballgames with his family. He adored few things more than Reds Opening Day with his son and grandson. Mike grew up working at his dad's business, the J.J. Schmidt Ice Cream Co. near old Crosley Field. He met his dear wife Judith (Spraul) as camp counselors at Fort Scott Camp outside of Cincinnati when they were teenagers.
Mike is is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Julia, and his parents Ted and Clare Schmidt. He is survived by his wife, Judith, his son, Stephen (Regan), his three grandchildren Sebastian, Scarlett and Audrey, and his sister Marcie. Mike's spirit will live on in their hearts and minds.
Join us in celebrating Mike's beautiful life and legacy on Saturday, April 5th at St. Xavier Church, 611 Sycamore Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202. His family will receive visitors at 9:00 AM, with Mass to follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
