Michael Louis Selz

Michael Louis Selz, 74, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born on March 19, 1951, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Louis Edmund Selz and Naureen Elaine Lennie Selz. He was raised in Eau Claire and graduated from Regis High School, where the foundations of his lifelong discipline, integrity, and sense of responsibility were firmly established.
On May 20, 1972, Michael married the love of his life, Julie Shea. Their marriage of 53 years was marked by deep devotion, shared faith, steadfast partnership, and an enduring commitment to family. Together they built a life defined by loyalty, service, and love.
Michael enjoyed a distinguished career in sales leadership, culminating in his retirement from Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company. Highly respected within his industry, he served as President of the American Foundry Society and was a contributing member of ASM International (formerly the American Society for Metals). His professional life reflected his exceptional organizational skills, precision, and unwavering integrity - qualities that earned him both trust and admiration.
After growing up in Eau Claire, Michael lived in Waukesha, Wisconsin; Charlotte, NC, and Mishawaka, Indiana, before settling in Mint Hill. Wherever he lived, he gave generously of his time and talents. A devoted parishioner of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Charlotte, Michael served faithfully as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and in marriage preparation ministry, quietly supporting others with humility and care.
Michael was known for his meticulous craftsmanship, his commitment to physical fitness and staying active, and his strong sense of personal responsibility. He approached life with purpose and steadiness, always striving to do what was right. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edmund and Naureen Elaine (Lennie) Selz and his brother, Peter Joseph Selz.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Julie (Shea) Selz; his daughter Maureen Elizabeth Selz House, son-in-law Jacob House of Raleigh, North Carolina; his grandchildren Julia House (fiancé Andrew Kunz), and Evan House; his son Andrew Michael Selz of Waxhaw, North Carolina, and his wife Janet (Spoto) Selz; and his grandchildren Carlie Jamison Selz and Drew Elizabeth Selz.
He is also survived by his sister Susan Mary Selz of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; his brother Stephen George Selz and wife Mary (Walters) Selz of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Rite of Committal will be held on Wednesday, December 17, at 1:00 p.m. at Kings Mountain Preserve, 321 Indian Springs Road, Blacksburg, South Carolina. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
