Michael John Sheldon, known affectionately to friends and family as Mike, passed away on August 1, 2025, while in the hospital surrounded by his family, after a valiant battle with illness.

Born on September 19, 1946, in Albany, NY, Mike's life was one of service, love, and adventure. He was a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, whose legacy is marked by his generous spirit and unwavering integrity. Mike served his country with pride as a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a time during which he developed a lifelong passion for navy football and the values of discipline and camaraderie. After his military service, he pursued a career that reflected his nurturing nature, becoming the Director of Nutrition and Food Service at Arden Hill Hospital and later at ORMC. Mike's dedication to his profession and the well-being of others was evident in the care he put into his work every day. A man of faith, Mike was an active member of his Christian community, living his beliefs through his actions and the love he showed to others. His kindness and warm smile were a beacon of comfort to all who knew him. Mike's educational journey began at Paul Smith College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. The skills and knowledge he acquired there laid the foundation for his successful career and his ability to touch the lives of those around him.

Predeceased by his beloved wife MaryEllen, his father Harold, and his mother Jean, Mike's memory is carried on by his sons Brian and Mark, his daughters-in-law Erica and Caitlin, and his cherished grandsons Max and Logan, who brought immense joy to his later years.

Mike's zest for life led him to explore the world, with a memorable vacation to Spain being among his cherished adventures. He was also an avid pilot, a hobby that allowed him to soar above the clouds and reflected his love for freedom and exploration. Above all, spending time with his grandsons and family was his greatest pleasure, and he instilled in them the values of love, perseverance, and the importance of a life well-lived.

A life full of purpose and joy, Mike Sheldon's story is one that will be told with fondness and pride. His impact on the lives of those he loved and served will continue to resonate, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched. Mike Sheldon's journey on earth has concluded, but his spirit and the lessons he imparted on us all will endure forever.
