Michael Simmons Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by S.M. Goodson Funeral Homes and Crematory - Talladega on Dec. 9, 2025.
Mr. Michael Lewis "Mike" Simmons, a cherished father, brother, and friend, was born on August 1, 1957, in Talladega, Alabama, to Lovell Simmons and Evelyn Moon Simmons.

With a spirit shaped by his deep faith, Michael became an ordained minister and was a valued member of Word of Faith Cathedral in Austell, Georgia. His dedication to education led him from the Talladega City School System to Talladega College, culminating in a master's degree in business from the University of Arizona Global College. Once earning his Master's Degree, Michael devoted his career to the business world, where he held the esteemed position of Director, influencing those around him with his keen intellect and compassionate leadership. He approached each challenge with a gentle spirit and a discerning mind, leaving an indelible mark on his profession. Known for his unwavering commitment to excellence, he made significant contributions as the Director of Transportation, where he recently retired from First Step Staffing in May 2025. He returned to Anniston, Alabama, to continue his passion for service in his family's business, Evelyn Moon Children Services. A proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Michael embodied the fraternity's ideals of achievement and brotherhood. He forged lifelong friendships that enriched his life and the lives of others, creating bonds that extended far beyond the college years.

Celebrated for his gentle spirit, Michael was a master of the kitchen and an avid golfer. He found profound joy in serving others, often gathering friends and family around the table where laughter and camaraderie thrived. His vibrant personality and infectious laughter made every occasion brighter, and his affectionate nickname "Mike" will forever resonate with those who were touched by his warmth.

Though he was a private man, Michael was well-loved, making a profound impact on the lives of those he encountered. On December 7, 2025, he peacefully departed this world with his loving and devoted family at his side, leaving behind a legacy rich with love, laughter, and indelible memories that will echo in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him. He is now reunited in eternal peace with his beloved parents, Lovell and Evelyn Simmons, former wife, Willie Ruth Simmons, as well as siblings, Helen Braxton, Carolyn Moon, and Laurence (Antrita) Simmons.

His cherished legacy will continue through his two beloved children, Taniah Jones and Michael Hayden Simmons, along with his two granddaughters, Amber Jones and Amari Jones, and two great-grandchildren, Josiah Jones and Maicyn Jones. He is also survived by his three loving sisters, Linda Simmons, Teresa Simmons Ross (John), Mikel Simmons; three brothers, Jerry (Randeen) Simmons, Jeff (Cynthia) Simmons, Larry (Angela) Simmons; six nieces, Gerri (Danny) Kimble, Edrika (Justin) Bull, Lauren (Octavious) Statton, Gabrielle (Julian) Harris, PerCee (Jeff) Leonard, Jerry (Honey) Simmons; four nephews, Xavalon Simmons, Jermaine (Robin), Chase Simmons and Jordan Simmons; wonderful friends, Coleman Scott, Robert Wells, Sandra Sawyers, Vicki May, and Lilli Ruth May; many great-nieces and nephews;and a wealth of cousins, other relatives and friends who held him dear.
