Michael Lee Ellis Smith, 32, of Pekin formerly of the Mason City Area passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. He was born on March 25, 1993 in Springfield to Jennifer Smith Bowersock.
Michael is survived by his mother Jennifer, step-dad Michael Bowersock, Grandmother Debbie Yohe, and siblings: Justin Harp, Hailynn (Tre) Volpatti, Brayden (Bre) Boatman, Alyssa Boatman, Kierstyn Yohe, Hannah (Alex) Laurenzana and Tanner Bowersock. Uncle Jason (Beth) Smith and Aunt Angie Green, cousins: Alex Smith, Ethan (Leisha) Green and Gavin Thomas, 2nd cousins Paige and Lainey Green, nieces and nephews Cohen and Lane Bell and Aleigha and Karter Harp. He was preceded in death by his grandpa Don Yohe brother Baby R., brother Jacob Bowersock, nephew Ryland Volpatti and niece Nova Volpatti.
Michael had always wanted to be a hero, and he finally got that title as he was able to be an organ donor and save TWO lives!
Michael graduated from Williamsville High School. He was a volunteer storm spotter for Skywarn. He had a huge love for the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed movies, music, birdwatching, sharks, sports stats, riding his bike, traveling to Florida and seeing the ocean. He loved helping his momma make bath and body products and loved crafting with his grandma.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11. 2025 at 2:00 PM at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City. Visitation will be an hour prior, from 1:00 PM until the time of service. The family requests all who attend to please wear Chicago Bears or fishing attire. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences can be left at www.hurleyfh.com. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.
