Michael Smyers

Michael Smyers (39), an enthusiastic father, loving fiancé, and cherished friend, passed away on 4/30/23 at his home in Seattle, surrounded by love and family.
Born in Kansas, Michael is the son of Mike Smyers and Robin "Smyers" Payne, brother of Cassandra. He discovered his passion for programming in 3rd grade, paving the way for who he would become. He attended Olathe East High School. In 2006 he graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
In 2020, he and his partner Kathleen welcomed a baby boy into their beautiful family. Michael was an incredibly supportive and nurturing father who encouraged compassion and curiosity. He wanted his son to live with morals above all else - and to discover and pursue his Personal Legend.
Michael began his entrepreneurial career in college when he created CourseScheduler, helping thousands of students to easily create schedules that fit their needs. Since then, Michael has had an incredible and long-lasting impact on society, having created 2 industries - the Landline Texting industry and the Bitcoin Transmission industry in the United States.
Michael loved helping people and will be remembered for his kind and open heart, quick wit, loyalty, generosity, tenacity, resilience and infectious smile. He was known for his foresight, innovative mind, dedication to family and dreams, love of debate, and raw talent. He is survived by his partner, son, parents, sister, and a large network of extended friends and family.
