Obituary of Michael R. Sparrow
Mr. Michael R. Sparrow, 64, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.
Michael was born in Utica, on February 12, 1959, the son of Donald G. and Rita M. (Gotte) Sparrow and was a graduate of Whitesboro High School. Michael was married to Joni M. Jones (Sparrow) until her passing in 2013. For many years, he was employed as a therapy aide with Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center, retiring in 2002. Michael was an avid coin collector, enjoyed playing the NY State Lottery and had a great love for his beloved 13 cats. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Sparrow is survived by his three daughters, Cortney (Billy Thompson) Sparrow of Utica, Candice (Michael Rios) Sparrow of Yorkville and Brittany (Michael Walawender) of N. Utica; nine cherished grandchildren, Anthony Walawender, Jordan Walawender, Tyler Walawender, Leah True, Michael Thompson, Jason Bouse, Jr., Jayana Bouse, Briana Rios and Brielle Rios; one sister, Donna Loftus of Deerfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Denise Sparrow of Whitesboro and Scott and Peggy Sparrow of Clinton and his dear friend, Nancy Buell of Utica, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Donald and Rita and wife Joni, Michael was predeceased by his brother-in-0law, Mike Loftus.
Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. In keeping with Michael's wishes there is no funeral service. Those wishing to make a donation in Michael's memory, please consider the Disabled American Veterans, Stars and Stripes Chapter 82, 409 Herkimer Rd., Utica, NY 13502 or Anita's Stevens Swan Humane Society, 5664 Horatio St., Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
