Michael Shawn Steele, known affectionately as Michael to his friends and family, left this world just a few days after his 49th birthday, on September 18, 2025, in Florence, Kentucky. Born on September 7, 1976, in Covington, Kentucky, Michael's life was marked by his loving nature, his generosity, and his friendly demeanor that made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Michael was a proud graduate of Walton-Verona High School, class of 1996. His dedication to his work was evident in his long-standing career as a Material Handler for Fed-Ex Ground. Michael was not only excellent at what he did but also played a vital role in the company. His colleagues at Fed-Ex Ground became his second family, and he is remembered there for his commitment and camaraderie.
Family was the cornerstone of Michael's life. He is survived by his cherished daughter, Daisy-Mae Steele, who was the light of his life. Every spare moment Michael had was devoted to her, creating memories that Daisy-Mae will treasure forever. He also leaves behind his brother, Les (Alison) Courtney, two uncles, seven cousins, and his Fed-Ex Ground family, who will all miss him dearly. Michael was preceded in death by his loving mother, Kathy Courtney, and his grandparents, Dick and Kathleen Courtney.
Michael's interests painted the picture of a man who loved life's simple pleasures. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and joy in the quiet moments by the water. His passion for the Cincinnati Bengals was unmatched, and he never missed a game, cheering on his favorite football team with fervor. Michael's evenings were often capped with a big bowl of ice cream, a sweet end to his days.
His spiritual life was also important to him, as he attended 7 Hills Church with his daughter Daisy Mae. His faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life.
Michael's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unselfishness he shared with all who were lucky enough to know him. His friendly nature made him a beloved figure in his community, and his absence will be deeply felt by many.
As we bid farewell to Michael Shawn Steele, we celebrate the life he lived and the countless ways he enriched the lives of others. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Rest in peace, Michael; your love and friendship will never be forgotten.
