Michael J Sumpter

Michael J. Sumpter, 75, of Warsaw, Indiana, died at 7:10 pm, Friday, April 28, 2023, at his home. He was born on May 22, 1947, in Wabash, Indiana, to Joseph and Maxine (Harrier) Sumpter.
Mike was a 1965 graduate of Wabash High School. He married Linda Baker in Wabash on May 6, 1966. Mike worked at the Chrysler Transmission Plant retiring in 2002, worked for Reynolds Oil Company after retirement, did carpentry work with his neighbor building decks and sheds, and also worked with his niece and her husband at IMD in Warsaw. He enjoyed working, tinkering, spending time with his family, drinking coffee with his lake friends, and hanging out at IMD.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sumpter of Warsaw, two children, Scott (Tammy) Sumpter of Wabash, and Stacey (Jack) Heeter of Winona Lake, Indiana, eight grandchildren; Matthew (Elle) Helm of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Breann Schlemmer of Warsaw, Taylor Helm of Winona Lake, Katie Sumpter and Kaleb Sumpter, both of Wabash, Ashton Heeter of North Manchester, Indiana, Chandler Heeter of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Avery (Cole) Isbell of North Manchester, three great-grandchildren, Sawyer Schlemmer and Brody Schlemmer, both of Warsaw, and Jackson Isbell of North Manchester. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Sumpter.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4:00 - 8:00 pm, Monday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Stillwater Hospice.
