Michael Anthony Sylvester, 62, a lifelong resident of Beacon, NY, passed away on May 20, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and partner Nicole, after a fierce battle with Bulbar ALS.
Born on September 28, 1962, to the late Catherine and Rudolph Sylvester, Mike was a pillar of strength, humor, and generosity in his community. He dedicated 33 years of service as a Corrections Officer, while also pursuing his passion for craftsmanship as co-owner of C&M Siding-a small business he proudly ran with his best friend, Robert "Chip" Haight. Whether he was building decks on weekends or lending a hand to friends and neighbors, Mike was known for his work ethic, skill, and willingness to help those he loved at the drop of a hat.
Mike was a proud life member of St. Rocco's Italian Society in Beacon and cherished the traditions, friendships, and community that came with it. During retirement, he found peace and joy at his favorite place-his campground and boat on Lake Sacandaga-where stories were told, laughter echoed, and many close friends and memories were made. Mike had a passion for cooking and was known for his skill in the kitchen, always sharing delicious meals and bringing people together to try his recipes.
A natural storyteller and a friend to all, Mike's warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was deeply devoted to his family and especially proud of his daughters-Gina Sylvester (Cory Vegeto), and Sara Sylvester (Tristan Daly). He was proud to be able to attend Gina and Cory's wedding earlier this month. He was especially excited for Sara and Tristan to welcome his first grandchild later this year.
Mike is survived by his loving partner, Nicole Duquette; his daughters, Gina and Sara; his sisters, Nancy (Mark) Jones, Jeanne Sylvester, Julie (Nick) DiGiaimo, and Patty (Dan) McCarthy; as well as many nephews and a niece, who adored their Uncle Mike. He is also survived by his former wife, Jane Sylvester, with whom he shared many meaningful years and the joy of raising their children.
Mike's legacy of kindness, hard work, and unwavering loyalty will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will gather on Monday, May 26 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
