With his loving family by his side, Michael T. (Terry) Allegrini, 85, died Thursday, March 6, after a period of declining health.Terry and his devoted wife, Elaine (Duff) Allegrini, were married for 63 years and raised 5 children, Joanne Dunsky (Michael) of Medway, Debra Bommarito (James) of North Hollywood, CA, Michael and Leanne of Carver, Mark (deceased) and Peter and Leah, Carver. He was proud Bampie of Maria Allegrini (and her daughter Kendall) and Olivia Allegrini, Megan Flaherty (Mark Featherstone), Brenna O'Sullivan (Thomas) and (their daughter Daisy Claire), Ethan and Morgan Allegrini, Reagan and Jillian Allegrini and Hanna Driscoll (Stephen) and (their daughter Stevie Rose) and Ross Dunsky.
Born Dec. 28, 1939, in Syracuse, Terry grew up in Quincy with his brother Jack and sister Cathy. He long remembered his years in scouting and summers at Camp Massasoit. The highlight of those years occurred when he received Eagle Scout and the Altare Dei catholic scouting badge, honors he cherished through his life.. He graduated from Quincy Trade School, then enlisted in the Navy, serving 2 years active duty and 6 years reserves.Terry returned home to his bride, worked as a fleet mechanic for Kasanofs Bakery, and later turned to marine mechanics where he eventually had his own mobile business throughout the South Shore. He also for some years had a package store in Hanson.Family was the center of his life and the love Terry and Elaine shared was ever present from their first meeting as teenagers through their 80s. He taught his young children to water ski, a sport he actively participated in and guided them through their growing years. He relished the work ethic that inspired their life choices and often spoke of that same work ethic in the grandchildren. From the family D.C. road trip in the old station wagon to Bermuda cruises in retirement, he enjoyed travel. Terry's lifelong dream came true when he bought an old Corvette, later a 2001 convertible. He was so proud! He enjoyed weekly calls from his brother Jack Allegrini and his wife Ann. And, looked forward to lunch at Mamma Mia's, Woods and other favorite places. Of late, Terry became Elaine's passenger, a new view for the former family chauffeur. Now, he's in Heaven, with son Mark, who's been gone 15 years.
Family and friends are invited to the service at noon Friday, March 14, at Cartmell-Davis funeral home, 150 Court St., Plymouth. Interment follows at 2 p.m. at National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jimmy Fund, an organization Terry supported.
