Michael West Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Funeral Home, Cremation Center & Cemetery on Dec. 9, 2025.
Michael R. West, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, in his hometown of Evansville, IN, where he was also born on March 25, 1952. Mike's life was one of joy, laughter, and the simple pleasures that make a life well-lived.

Mike is survived by his loving children, Waylon and Warren West; his cherished grandchildren, Colton and Dylan West; and his loyal pets, Bella, Baron, and Bruiser Bear. He was a devoted family man, and his presence will be deeply missed by his siblings, Bruce West, Donnie West, Rose Heerdink, Shannon Hale, and David West. Mike's life was enriched by the company of his wife's family, Jeremy and Caitlyn Keller, Gary and Kathy Keller, and Tony and Leann Weyer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen A. West, his parents, Emery and Juanita West, and his brothers, Rocky and Gary West.

In his younger years, Mike reveled in the thrill of concerts, mudding in the truck he shared with his brothers, and fishing. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his passion for horses and spending time at Ellis Park as he grew older. Mike was a pillar of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors in need. His skills at the grill were legendary, especially his ability to smoke a pretty good pork butt, which was a highlight at many gatherings.

Mike had a unique ability to make people laugh, often bursting into song and dance with his rendition of the Lollipop Kids from "The Wizard of Oz" during parties. His sense of humor was a gift that he shared generously. A fan of country western shows and football, Mike found joy in the simple things in life. He had a particular fondness for the local flavors of Turoni's and GD Ritzy's, where he enjoyed many a meal with friends and family.

An avid fisherman, Mike loved nothing more than casting a line at the Little Wabash for catfish, where he found peace and solitude. These moments by the water were some of his most treasured times.

Mike's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told and retold by those who knew him best. As we say goodbye to Michael R. West, we celebrate a life that was full of passion, kindness, and an unquenchable zest for life. He will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world a brighter place for his having been in it.
