Our hearts are heavy as we share that Michael B. Wilkins, 70, passed away on October 4, 2025. Born on February 17, 1955, he was the son of the late Helen and Bennett Wilkins. Michael, better known as Mike to those who knew him, was raised in New Castle, Delaware, where he attended Delcastle Technical High School graduating in 1973. Mike was a proud, big brother to his three younger siblings - Mark, John, and Eileen. As the oldest, he carried a sense of responsibility, but he always made time for them, whether it was grabbing a pizza with Mark, protecting John on the playground, or gathering all together as a family for some crabs. After school, he became a highly skilled and talented pipefitter, retiring in 2019 from a trade that not only provided for his family but also gave him a lifetime of friendship and brotherhood.
If you were lucky enough to know him, you know he was one of a kind. Behind his big, burly frame was a giant teddy bear - stubborn as could be, full of sass, endlessly goofy, and always quick to make someone laugh. He was a hard worker, a loyal friend, and a dad who loved his family and was proud of the roots that molded him.
He found joy in the simple things: a hot cup of coffee, rock 'n' roll blaring from the speakers, learning to play instruments (most recently the guitar), watching the History Channel and old-time movies, cooking, and spending peaceful days by the water with a fishing pole in hand.
He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply - his six children: Matthew (Katherine), Samantha, Eric (Danielle), Katherine (Adam), Sarah, and Zachary (Amanda); his four cherished grandchildren: Ella, Wade, Stevie, and Nathan; his brothers Mark (Cyndi) and John; a plethora of nieces and nephews; and his most loyal fur companion, Lily. In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his sister, Eileen.
The family would like to thank Wilmington Hospital for the warmth and care shown to our Dad during his final days. A heartfelt thank you to Ryan and Traci, whose compassion and kindness brought him peace and made an unbearable time a little easier for us all.
The music never truly ends - it just changes its tune. His spirit will keep playing on in every note of love he left behind.
Rock on, Dad - your rhythm will live forever in our hearts.
