Michael Zebell, 72, of Alba, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous 18-month battle with illness.
Born on June 16, 1952, in Charleston, South Carolina, Michael was the son of the late Lou and Joan (Biggerstaff) Zebell. He was also preceded in death by his beloved sister, Kim Zebell.
Michael served his country with honor in the United States Navy, a foundation that carried into a rich and varied professional life. He held leadership roles as a general manager in the restaurant industry, founded and operated his own property management company, went back to school to learn and work in the computer tech field, and later became a real estate broker before retiring. He was a man of action who rarely sat still, always pursuing the next challenge or project with energy and heart.
In 2016, Michael and his devoted wife Sue moved to Alba from the DFW metroplex, fulfilling their shared dream of living in the country. He cherished the peaceful rhythms of rural life, spending time outdoors and caring deeply for animals, especially his horses, dogs, and cats. His gentle nature extended even to the smallest of creatures; he was known to spare the life of a spider, despite his wife's protests.
Michael's faith in God was strong and quiet, grounded in his appreciation for life's simple joys: nature, family, and the comfort of home. His legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and a love that touched all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Sue Cates Zebell; his son, Justin Zebell; his sister, Michelle Fazio; and nephews Franco Fazio and Chance Fazio. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered!
