It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Michel Jean-Baptiste on May 11th at the age of 77. Dr. Michel, a native of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, was born in 1947 to Italia (Sperduto) Jean-Baptiste and Sylvestre Jean-Baptiste. At a young age, Michel demonstrated a relentless work ethic, passion for learning and academic excellence, graduating from Moses Brown High School in 1965 and Harvard Medical School in 1974. He completed his neurosurgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he started his career in neurological surgery. Dr. Michel later returned to Haiti, where he founded, JBs Orphanage and served for over a decade as the Medical Director of Hospital Albert Schweitzer. After years of serving as a surgeon and medical director, Dr. Michel shifted his focus to Psychiatry, earning his credentials from Yale University where he completed his residency in 2001. Michel committed over 15 years to serving patients at Yale New Haven Hospital & Saint Raphael before launching his private practice in Woodbridge, Connecticut. With over 50 years of experience, Michel was beloved by his patients and their families. While he was a respected psychiatrist, his family also remembers him as a devoted brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family, Futbol (Soccer), and music was unparalleled. Above all, he cherished spending quality time with his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Merlene, his brother Sylvestre, his children, David, Alain, Getro, Jeffrey, Desmith, Mikerline, Rebecca, his grandchildren, Charlotte, Elijah, Solomon, Maxwell, Isabelle, Ari, Ira, Rai, Wallyha and his great granddaughter Isabelle with another granddaughter on the way. Michel was predeceased by his parents, Italia and Sylvestre Jean Baptiste and his daughter Mireille (Jean-Baptiste) Schwartz. Dr. Michel Jean-Baptiste saved my mothers life in 1984. She later had 3 children, including me, and now I have my own beautiful son. I am so thankful that he spent countless hours in surgery on my Mom (after a full shift already!!) and kept checking on her. He seems like he was such a sweet, caring person.

This man saved my life. I was in a psyche ward in college just going through extreme depression. My mom told me she had spoken to a real good doctor and to be hopeful. I'll never forget the first night he walked in with that radiant smile on his face, he was such a nice contrast from the rest of the ward, you could tell he genuinely cared and he immediately gave me a diagnosis and some potential meds I could try. The meds ended up returning me to my old self, I conquered my depression with his help and then he even took me on as my psychiatrist. My mother went through her own depression issues he took her on as well, then my dad; my whole family loves him and is indebted to him. Every visit with him was like a visit with an old friend; he's incredibly smart and professional but managed to balance it all while being a great human being. I honestly came to think of him as an additional father figure, I am so utterly heartbroken to hear of his passing. He was the best of his field and one of the absolute kindest souls I've ever met in my entire life. I'm sad I missed the services, I would've loved to attend and pay my respects; this man means so much to me. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Love you so much J.B, thank you for everything. You did so much for so many people.

I worked with JB at CMHC and it was always a pleasure, I missed him so much when he retired. The unit was always fun with JB. We talk about him often. He used to say ill sleep when I'm dead. I suppose he's getting his rest. I will miss him dearly. May he rest in peace. Prayers to your family.

I am so saddened to learn of Dr Jean Baptiste´s passing. He was my doctor for the past 7 years in which he showed such warmth and compassion to me. He was a non judgmental kind man who always put his patients first even when the session ended. If it was a difficult week he would not end the appointment but continued until things were stable. I truly unique physician.
I learned so much from him and will honor him by applying his lessons to my life.
My sincere condolences to his family. I will miss him so.
