Micheleangelo "Mike" Verzino, 90, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the VITAS unit at St. Mary's Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Concetta "Connie" (Fava) Verzino.
Mike was born in Reino, Benevento, Italy on March 2, 1933, the fifth child of the late Giuseppe and Nicolina (Cochiarella) Verzino.
Due to World War II and lack of teachers at the end of the war in his hometown, at the age of 12 Mike was sent to school at a seminary in Ravello, Italy. For four years Mike studied, among other subjects, Latin, Greek, Astronomy, and of course Religion. Mike came to the United States aboard the American Lines S.S. Constitution landing in New York on August 22, 1961, a sweltering hot humid day. Proud of being in America, he never forgot the anniversary of his arrival and loved to share the memory with his family. Prior to Mike's retirement he worked as a machinist for several manufacturing companies. Mike was artistically and mechanically gifted. His classical early education was evident in his love of art, music and culture. Mike enjoyed nothing more than the company of his family.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish for many years and then Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Besides his loving wife of 62 years, he leaves his daughter Rosemarie Larlee and her husband Max of Oakville and Dr. Joseph Verzino and his wife Deborah of Waterbury, his four loving grandchildren Samuel Verzino and his girlfriend Amani Orr, Jillian Verzino and her fiancé William O'Meara, Chelsea Larlee, and Jacob Larlee. He was predeceased by his five siblings: Brothers Giovanni and Antonio, and his three sisters Concetta, Letizia, and Gioconda.
Arrangements: Funeral will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023, 9:00 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Calvary Queen of Peace Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
