Michial Lloyd Volker passed away Saturday August 9, 2025 at Sentara Woodbridge hospital. Mike was born in Morris, Minnesota on July 5, 1947 and lived on the family farm in Grant County, Minnesota until he married Gretchen and joined the Army. Mike served as an Enlisted Aide in Vietnam (April 1969-April 1970) and later in Granite City, Illinois and Fort Myer and Fort McNair Virginia and retired in 1992 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He went on to become the Chef at Oak Springs Retirement Community in Arlington, Virginia.

Mike and Gretchen were wed March 15, 1969 in Mahtowa, Minnesota and had two daughters, Hope and Stephanie. Hope and Tim Denardo were married February, 2002 who were blessed with their daughter, Halle, in 2000. Tim shared his children Jordan, Jamie, and Jessica with Mike as his grandchildren. Stephanie married Karl Mueller October 2001 and welcomed their son Caleb in 2002 and daughter Sonja in 2009. Mike was a dedicated husband, loving father and a doting grandfather. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Nancy Volker and his brothers, Wally Heins, Geoff Volker and Glen Heins.

Mike will be celebrated at 9:30 am on August 30, 2025 at Dale City Baptist Church.

Mike had a unique and well-loved sense of humor; he would chat with anyone around and tell at least a couple of his old standards. Mike was an active member of Dale City Baptist Church for many years. As an expert cook he loved to serve and make sure everyone had their favorite food, just the way they liked it. For Christmas Mike would go all-out, eventually covering two trees with ornaments to spare.

We all loved him and will miss him greatly. Harkening back to his roots as a farmer, you might say Mike was like a scarecrow… he was outstanding in his field.
