Michon Haymer lit up the world with her smile. She spent her life cheering all those around her, celebrating the goodness of people and focusing on being kind.
Born in Mayfield Heights, OH on October 4, 1977, Michon was raised in
Willoughby, OH, the loving daughter of Hank and Teri Schenk. Competitive at an early age, Michon was always an active part of the swim team and carried her sense of determination, dedication and commitment throughout life. She moved to Kirtland as a teenager, and it became her forever beloved community.
In high school, Michon fell in love with her high school sweetheart Scott, while sitting around a bonfire. Scott brought out the adventurous side of Michon whether traveling to Hawaii or off-roading at a Jeep Jamboree. They balanced one another completely as they journeyed through life.
Michon worked at the Kirtland Elementary School as their Librarian and she loved her students, young and old. As a trained baker, it was not just her smile that made the world better, but she made it sweeter by baking with love. She passed out smiles, cookies, and lemon bars freely and even kept the football team well stocked with post-game cookies.
She loved gardening, swimming, the beach, her bees, and her beloved dogs, Rudy and Oscar. But the world's most important treasure to Michon was her family. Being a mom was her most sacred title. She adored her son, Scotty and was in awe of his kindness, intellect and loved his quiet companionship. She loved fulfilling his passion for menu planning and was always at ease hunkered down together watching sports. Her daughter, Devon, lit up her world and she admired her strength and intellect. She was protective and supportive and cherished their late-night chats, cooking together, and shopping for the perfect outfits. They giggled, danced and sang their days away. Michon was so proud of Devon's empathetic and kindhearted love of people and dogs.
Michon loved spending time with her family. She loved floating in the pool with her mother, standing beside her learning the traditional recipes or just spending hours talking about life. She loved singing Hotel California with her Dad and helping him pick the perfect presents, planning a fun tailgate or planting flowers together. She religiously cheered for her nephews and niece and made a point to be overprotective of their hearts and overgenerous with their orders for baked goods. She always had a glimmer of pride and sometimes mischief in her eye when she was with her older brother Hank. They protected and loved each other fiercely. She was always supported by her sister Jinnie and they often giggled over their shared love of dachshunds. Michon gave herself wholeheartedly into her friendships and was loved unconditionally by her two best friends Rebecca and Shelia.
Michon lived for other people. She loved surprising people and watching others succeed. She celebrated everyone and was invested in making the world around her kinder, sillier and full of joy!
Michon Devon (Schenk) Haymer is survived by her husband Scott Haymer and her two children Scotty and Devon; parents Henry and Theresa Schenk and mother in law Marcia Haymer; Brother Hank (Rebecca) Schenk and sister Jinnie Schenk; and her nephews Henry, Benjamin and Ethan and niece Amelia.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 11:00AM - 3:00 PM at The Abbey of Willoughby, 38011 Euclid Ave. (located on the grounds of McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home). A Memorial service will take place at 2:30 at The Abbey of Willoughby. Burial at North Kirtland Cemetery will follow the service.
