Michael Eugene "Mike" Gookins, age 60, of Rome, Georgia, sadly passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 4, 1965, in Greensburg, Indiana, Mike was the son of Larry Eugene Gookins and the late Richie Louise Gookins (formerly Garrison).
Mike was a master craftsman, a gifted mechanic, and a true artist in every sense of the word. Whether he was shaping steel, perfecting a paint job, or restoring a
classic hot rod, his work spoke for itself. His customers and friends knew him best as "Magic Mike." He spent his life doing what he loved-working on cars, creating, and helping others. Mike owned and operated Mike's Affordable Towing for many years and later spent several years at A1 Body Shop doing body and paint work. In his younger days, he ran his own body shop, where his incredible craftsmanship first earned him a reputation for excellence.
Mike was tough as nails, defined by hard work and grit, but those who knew him best knew he had a heart just as big. He had a quiet generosity that touched countless lives and was the kind of man who saw someone in need and provided for them without prompting or hesitation.
A devoted father, Mike made a lasting impact on his children. He taught them how to turn a wrench, how to take pride in a job done right, and how to stand on their own two feet. His example continues to inspire them to build, to fix, to create, and to care for others the way he did. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a man of integrity, whose legacy will live on in the people he helped, the projects he perfected, and the family he loved beyond measure.
Those left behind to honor Mike's legacy are his three children, Mitch Gookins, Nova Gookins, and Jony Gookins (Haley Miller); his father, Larry Eugene Gookins; his brothers, John Gookins and Carl Gookins; his former spouse and the mother of his children, Sandy Gookins; and his beloved canine companion, Pepper.
According to his wishes, Mike will be cremated, and no formal service will be held.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, is proud to serve the family of Michael Eugene "Mike" Gookins.
