Mike was born in Joplin on Oct. 1, 1940 to J.F.(Fritz) and Rachel (Sheets) Salzer, Joplin, Mo. He passed away April 20, 2025.
He lived a happy life, because he loved life.
He attended Irving Elementary, South Junior, and graduated from Joplin High School in1958. Mike attended Joplin Junior College and The University of Missouri for one year.
Mike worked for his parents at Salzer Tire Co. for most of his young life. He spent most of his working years in sales of tires, automotive parts, tools, and equipment. He retired Oct 1, 2009 from B&I Tire, Joplin, Mo.
Mike married Betty (Swindle) Salzer on June 5, 1965. They were married for 56 years when she passed in 2021. They were blessed with a daughter Suzi Diane (Salzer) Powell born on March 12, 1969. And they were blessed with a granddaughter Olivia Rose Powell on Jan. 14, 2000.
Mike had a love for the outdoors, so he practiced that love on the golf course. He started playing as a young boy and he played until 2 years ago. He had a few interviews with the local newspaper in his retirement years because he had been known to play golf close to 300 days a year. He and Betty also enjoyed dancing together. They could "cut a rug" and were fun to watch and be around. They loved to jitterbug!
A great husband, dad and grandpa. He will be missed more than any words we can describe. We will love him forever and we will see him in heaven. Thank you for the great life you gave to us.
Survivors are, Suzi Powell (Tom).and Olivia Powell (Carrie) all of Joplin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parker Mortuary on Tues. April 29, 2025 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
