Service for Mike Walling, 84, of Granbury, will be conducted at 11: 00 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at First Christian Church in Granbury. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 10, 2024 in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery in Cleburne. Visitation will be 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, August 9, 2024 at Wiley Funeral Home 400 E. Highway 377 in Granbury.
Mike passed away Monday, August 5, 2024 in Granbury, He was born December 18, 1939 in Cleburne to Cecil Cone and Helen (Helsley) Walling. Mike married Ava Lou Harper in 1985 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike was an avid golfer starting in high school. He received a scholarship to Texas Christian University. Mike graduated from Texas Christian University in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. In 1962 Mike joined the U S Air Force where he was a pilot and stationed at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. After the Air Force he moved to Fort Stockton, Texas where he owned the Fort Stockton Insurance Agency. Mike was also elected Mayor of Fort Stockton for two terms. He pursued his golfing becoming a member of the PGA, playing the USA Amateur, Canadian Amateur and the British Amateur. Mike and Ava married and moved to Mansfield, Texas where he began his career as a stockbroker. Mike retired in 2001 and moved to De Cordova Bend Estates just outside of Granbury. He and Ava spent a lot of time traveling and playing golf. He enjoyed working in his yard and making sure it was beautiful.
Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Ava Walling; children, Kelly Smith, Wendy Walling, Chris Walling, Tammy Glosson, Sammie Rogers; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents.
