Michael Dewain Drake, lovingly known as Mikey, passed away, January 15, 2024, at the age of 44. Family and friends will gather for visitation to honor Mikey's life, Friday, January 26, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services located at 5431 U.S. Hwy 190 in Belton. Funeral service will be held the following day, Saturday, January 27, at 2:00 PM at Crotty Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Friends and family are encouraged to gather there to pay their respects. Burial will follow at McDowell Cemetery in Belton. Honoring Mikey as pallbearers will be: Amy Drake, Brett Drake, Keith Younce, Ilee Younce, Scott Alvarez, Matt Vicker, Dalton Clark and Eli Vicker; honorary pallbearers will be: Cash Drake and Brad Younce.
Mikey was born September 11, 1979, in Houston, Texas. Mikey grew up with an adventurous spirit and a passion for nature. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the great outdoors. Additionally, he became known for his pursuit of "Big Foot" and was determined to find him despite the mythical creature's elusive nature.
He was a self-taught heating and air conditioning technician who dedicated over 24 years of his life to the HVAC industry. In 2020, Mikey proudly opened his own company called "Homerun Heating and Air." His customers admired him not only for his exceptional work but also for his sense of humor that would always brighten their day. Mikey was a man on a mission, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a heart of gold and treated everyone with kindness and respect, regardless of whether they were strangers or friends. Whenever someone required assistance, Mikey would be the first to offer help and the last to leave their side. His selflessness touched the lives of countless individuals who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
One of Mikey's remarkable qualities was his ability to create masterpieces through his extraordinary creativity in building things. Even with the smallest objects, he could envision and construct something truly extraordinary—a testament to his ingenuity.
What brought immense joy to Mikey's life was making people laugh. He had an unparalleled sense of humor that went above and beyond to bring smiles to others' faces. His friends and family cherished his comedic talents and admired how he could effortlessly turn any situation into an opportunity for laughter.
Mikey leaves behind a grieving but grateful family. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Brandy Drake; his mother, Phyllis Kay Drake; as well as his adoring children, Brett Drake and fiancée, Sydney Long, Amy Drake and fiancée, Alyssa Rodriguez, and Cash Drake. He also leaves behind his sisters, Jennifer Alvarez and her husband, Scott, and Tammie Drake and her companion, Richard Mata. Additionally, Mikey is mourned by his brothers-in-law, Rick Vicker and his wife, Jenny, and Matt Vicker. His memory will live on in the hearts of his 14 nieces and nephews, as well as his great-nephew. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members are also left to cherish the memories created with Mikey.
Mikey was preceded in death by his father, Michael Joe Drake; paternal grandparents, Larry Burleson, Ann Burleson, and Tommy Joe Drake; maternal grandparents, Myrna and Robert Chambers; uncles, Russell Chambers and Robert Daris; and paternal aunt, Sherrye Wilson. Their presence in Mikey's life has surely shaped him into the remarkable individual he became.
Mikey's legacy goes far beyond his professional success or personal achievements. He touched numerous lives with his extraordinary kindness and brightened countless days with his infectious laughter. Mikey will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, best brother, caring uncle, loyal friend, and a genuinely remarkable person.
In this time of grief, let us celebrate the incredible life that Mikey lived and carry his memory in our hearts forever.
