Mildred Zimmerman Hatchett, age 93 of Cowan, passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, September 9, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 18, 1929 in Belvidere to the late William and Elsie (Crawford) Zimmerman. Mildred was a member of the Cowan First Baptist Church for over 70 years. During her membership at the church, she served as Treasurer for over 30 years and taught Sunday school. She was a devoted Christian woman and taught all of her grandchildren Bible verses. Their love for the Lord was important to her. Mildred was involved in many different organizations, such as being the first woman Alderman of Cowan, she was a founding member of the Cowan Beautification Club, and she was also the first woman president of the Cowan Commercial Club. She will be remembered as a strong and business minded woman, who loved to be outdoors working in her yard and flower gardens. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Hatchett; siblings, Ethelyn Z. Osborne, Anna Z. Hall, Ellen Z. Crownover and Adrian Zimmerman; grandson, Cory Coulson and son-in-law, Ben Boswell. She is survived by her loving children, Sylvia H. (Doyle) Coulson, Regina Boswell, K. Nelson (Lisa)Hatchett and K. Heath (Matt) Hatchett; grandchildren, Allison C. (Lonnie) Palmertree, Amy C (Russ) Hudson, Brooke Boswell, Bo (Traci) Boswell, Kyle ( Diana) Hatchett, and Melissa Hatchett; great-grandchildren, Hannah Palmertree, Grace Palmertree, Ethan Hudson, Haley Hudson, Turner Boswell and Weston Boswell; beloved dog, Knox; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Margie Davis and helper, Joyce Brown. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 from12pm -2pm at the Cowan First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 2pm at the church with Pastor L Z Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Cowan-Montgomery Cemetery with Lonnie Palmertree, Russ Hudson, Bo Boswell, Ethan Hudson, Turner Boswell, Weston Boswell, and Kyle Hatchett serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Cowan First Baptist Church Building Fund or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
