Clifford Darrel Darrel Nelson

Clifford "Darrel" Nelson, age 69 of Cowan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Darrel was born on December 4, 1955, in Bridgeport, Alabama to Betty Jo (Jones) Nelson and the late Jerry William Nelson. Darrel retired after twenty-five plus years from Service Electric. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting; but most recently he enjoyed hiking and being at home with his family. Darrel was a devoted member of Cowan First Church of the Nazarene and loved sharing the word about his Lord and Savior. Darrel lived quietly but powerful, never seeking attention, yet always making an impact. A soul of rare humility, he gave without asking, listened without judgement, and loved without condition. Kindness was not just something Darrel showed – it was who he was at his core. Darrel will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, and friends, and all who were fortunate to walk a part of life's journey with him. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Ann (Wells) Nelson; brother-in-law, Drexal T. Holt; and sister-in-law, Angie Nelson. Darrel is survived by his mother, Betty Jo Nelson; wife, Tina Nelson; children, Kim (Ben) Mankin, Lloyd (Lisa) Gross, Roy Brandon Gross, William Daniel (Jamie) Sunderland; grandchildren, John Mankin, Christopher Gross, Jacob Gross, and Lucy Pearl Sunderland; sister, Debbie (Jeff) Matthews, and Angela Holt; brothers, Arnold Nelson and Dennie (Susan) Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 11:00am – 2:00pm, Tuesday, August 12, 2025, with funeral service following at 2:00pm with Bro. John Barker and Bro. John Butler officiating.
