Our dear friend, Mildred Miller, 96 years of age, passed peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2025.,
Milly was born on August 23, 1929, to her parents, Myrle and Charles Jones, of
American Falls, Idaho. She and her sister, Grace, were raised on the family farm outside of
Tulelake, California. Both girls attended school in the area and Milly achieved her high school diploma.
She met her husband, William Miller, who at that time worked for the Tulelake Newspaper as a linotype operator. The couple married, and had a son, Charles Michael Miller (Mike), on February 19, 1948. Mike also grew up in Tulelake and eventually became an attorney, practicing in Klamath Falls. Mike sadly died in an automobile accident on April 24, 2002.
Milly was employed for 19 years through Modoc and Siskiyou Counties as a school bus driver. She was always up before dawn to start her route. She met many life-long friends during this period of her life. She loved her job and followed the lives of the students she drove for as long as her memory allowed. She also drove the bus for the children to the Malin pool in the summers, as well as to high school games. She was also hired to transport firefighters back and forth from fire camps to the fire front.
Hobbies included sewing, bridge, swimming, travel and pet ownership. She played bridge with friends in Tulelake and Malin, and later with a bridge group in Klamath Falls. Milly traveled to Hong Kong and mainland China with her mother to visit Mike when he was in the military there. Every year, she and Geri Ganger made a trip to the coast, taking their dogs. She and her mother also took many trips domestically with friends from Tulelake and Malin. She often took advantage of Senior Bus Trips to several areas in Nevada, and the Kla-Mo-Ya Casino near Chiloquin. Milly always had a dog when she moved to Klamath Falls, usually an older dog "who nobody else wanted."
Milly was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Myrle Jones; her sister, Grace; her son, Mike Miller; her husband, William Miller; and her very dear friend, Geri Ganger, and my mom, Rosemary Myers.
Many of Milly's friends have also passed, but several have stayed in contact with her in her final months. Many thanks and condolences to Norma Montgomery, who called Milly every morning at 8:00 A.M. sharp to check in with her, until Milly could no longer answer the phone; Patty Fitgerald, who cooked many a meal for Milly; Winnie Heiney; Caroline Aslett; Richanne Flynn; Sue Farthing ; Barbara Dean; and so many more. A neighbor of Milly's, Carrie Knight, has also offered support in her last months. Thanks too, to Kevin Freeman the Alpine Meadows Sr. RV Park. Milly really enjoyed living there. There will not be a service at Milly's request.
