Mildred Glover Samuels, a native and resident of
Mobile, Alabama, was escorted to Heaven by angels on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at her residence. She was born to the union of the late Milton and Lucy Lynum Glover on April 28, 1936. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Samuels, seven brothers, Mr. James (Osie) Glover, Mr. Henry (Sally Pie) Glover, Mr. Leo Glover, Mr. Eugene (Ester) Glover, Mr. Leamon Glover, Mr. Milton Glover, Mr. Martin Glover, and two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy (Richard) Wingfield, and Ms. Beulah (Bobby) Mc Means. The Glovers were a loving family, and they supported each other throughout their lives. Often paying college tuitions for younger siblings, caring for each other in sickness, and enjoying each other's company on each encounter.
She was a faithful member of Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where Reverend Doctor John L. Dees serves as pastor. She was a dutiful and humble member of Emmanuel. She served on many boards for decades - Sunday School Teacher, the Senior Choir, on the Progressive Board, the Trustee Board, the Religious Education Board, the Jordon/Gaston Missionary Society, and she was a member of the 50+ Club. She chaired many church anniversaries and special events. Everyone knew they could call on her if needed, as she loved her church family. She was highly instrumental in acquiring the historic marker for Emmanuel AME Church. This was a cherished accomplishment for her.
Mildred was devoted to her religion; when she was unable to attend church service, she participated through the church conference call, never missing a Sunday. She sent her tithe each month, and never missed communion on first Sundays
In 1953, Mildred was graduated from Central High School in
Mobile, Alabama.
She attended Alabama State University at the age of 16, where she graduated with honors. Mildred was one of the first African American women to receive a Double A certificate in Education from the University of South Alabama.
While teaching at W. H. Council Elementary School, she was appointed as a Master Teacher. She served 30 Years in Mobile County Schools as a primary teacher. As Mildred moved about Mobile, she often encountered former students who showered her with praise. She was a member of the National Education Association. Her Pan-Hellenic affiliation was with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for over 60 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, numerous nieces and nephews; Ms. Da'Na Mc Means-Mobile, Mrs. Debra (Micheal) Adams-Mobile, Ms.Mitzi Wingfield-Mobile, Ms.Sharon Crowel-LaMesa, California, Ms. Brigitte Tracy-Orlando Florida, Mr. Anthony Smith-Mobile, Mr. Carl Populus-Los Angeles, Ca., Ms. Monica Mc Cants- Mobile, Valerie Norwood-Mobile, Mrs. La Tonya (Tim) Ellis-Mobile, Ms. Wanda Thomas- Mobile, Ms. Diana McNeil-Mobile, Mrs. Lynn (Harry) Mc Bride-Marietta, Ga., Retired Colonel Kenneth (Gracie) Glover, USAF, Woodbridge, Va.,
Mildred leaves a host of treasured friends, all from Mobile- Ms. M. Bernadette Jones, Mrs. Adriene Barry, Mrs. Mary (Council) Powell, Mr. Wiley Walker Jr., Mr. Eugene Morgan, Ms. Frances Williams, Ms. Cynthia Portis, Ms. Della Robinson. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews, she loved dearly.
